Blocking Instant Messenger

  1. DSoes anyone know what ports the I.M. programs use? I have an employee who connects to my server/network with her laptop. She has XP Pro and uses AOL I.M. and Yahoo I.M. to talk to her friends all day (on the sly). I need a way to block these programs from our server so that they can't be accessed. Any idea's?

5050 for Yahoo (server scs.yahoo.com), and 5190 for AIM (server login.oscar.aol.com).

Warn her in writing that her chat is being monitored and to "cease and desist". That might help, also. Careful, because of the litigious (sp?) mentality that rules in the USA. Baz

you also might want to block aim.com and all subdomains. there is a thing called aim express that lets you log on without installing the program.
