Blocking specific programs ?

Son has win7 and wants to know how he can block specific program he is using from accessing the web while he's online, already tried blocking it through windows firewall settings, but he's asking me now and i don't use win7 so not too knowlegeable on it !

I think it would be helpful to know what program it is and why is it trying to access the Internet? Is it for an update?:wave:wave:confused

 

HIya Brandy he hasn't said what program it is he just dosen't want it accessing the internet for some reason, knowing my son it's probably because it's a dodgy copy of some kinda music program cos him an all his mates all make music for DJ'ing ! :confused

I think that most, if not all, programs that attempt to access the internet are updaters for programs. Adobe does this, AVG, Java, cCleaner all have this. Most can have the automatic updaters turned off, that's the way I run them by the way. Else, I thing most of the updaters are also running in the autorun programs and I use startup standalone from here to disable those.
There may and probably are other programs that access the internet for other reasons, I just wouldn't know what they would be as I always run a very lean system.
So you kind of need to know what program is trying to do this. If this is related to education, I suppose there are some corresponding programs that the schools have the students load, I think I've seen some of that. And they may be attempting to get on the internet for their own purposes. :wave:wave

 

Brandy, my sons 28yr old next week, he's definitely not at school LOL, he's a proffesional DJ ! Thats why i said, its probably a music program, what him and his mates use ! But your most probably right it'll be the update part of the program trying to access the internet !

 

He could always install a firewall, and blacklist it from that firewall.
