Blogspot Comment Images Problem: Https Related?

Yeah, I know. This issue is really ideally best asked over in the Blogger Forums | Google Groups. The thing is I HAVE already asked it over there AND even used that so-called Complain Button in my Blog's Dashboard, which if I understand correctly, it is supposed to theoretically put you in direct contact with Devs ... and getting a solution is not looking promising.

Any BlogSpot Bloggers here that might have some insight?

Anyway, as of a week ago today, the emoticons and images in my Blog's comments have stopped displaying. Only the code for them displays. In fact, the Blogs of two of my BlogSpot friends are doing the exact same thing. The common denominator between all 3 Blogs is that we do all use the same code for displaying images in our Blogs' comments. This is the link to where I got the code: http://helplogger.blogspot.com/2012/03/add-videosimages-in-bloggerblogspot.html

Now with that in mind, I happen to know that recently, Google / Blogger changed the system of Blogger Blogs from http to https. My theory as to the cause of our problem is that probably the changeover to https caused a mismatch with that code for displaying the images.

Does anyone here know enough to be able to decipher that code so as to confirm whether my theory is correct? If that IS the cause, what would be the solution? New, updated code for displaying the images?

Or does anyone know where I can get better help with Blogger / BlogSpot problems than what I've received at the Blogger Forums | Google Groups and with that Complain Button? The lone reply that I received looked promising at first as it was supposedly an "Expert" reply. The guy was going to investigate my problem and get back with an update. But, that was 6 days ago

I finished trying that tool, but it didn't work, Eldon. At first I thought they were referring to the Edit HTML button in my Dashboard. But, when I saw that that did absolutely nothing, I took another look at the pic in the link and realized that it was the HTML button in any Post to which they were referring. I clicked on that and then on the Update button as in in an existing Post there is no Save button. No problems were found.

I realized anyway that that really wasn't surprising because I don't have any code in my Posts that could be causing trouble. The problem would have to be code in the Template of the entire Blog, as in over where that aforementioned Edit HTML button would be clicked on. But, on the various times that I clicked on the Save Template button in that area, nothing would happen.

I hope the Expert returns tomorrow. I don't want to have to get all unhinged over there at the Blogger Forums.:eek:

Ahhh yes, my Associates ... very qualified, amazingly adept, extremely efficient Associates. What can I say? I hire nothing but the best to help me run my Blog. :D

Thanks for the tool suggestion, Eldon.

You're welcome - pity it wasn't any help.
I copied the link in your last comment, pasted it here and it shows. So there's a coding issue with Blogger.

I'm guestimating it does have something to do with the switch from http to https as the links are all http.
Hopefully others will start complaining and they will fix the coding.

Why the Sunday, November 1, 2020 date?

It's giving me a very uneasy, sinking feeling that unless the Expert eventually shows up here soon this week and gives me a quick, bulk fix ... the only remedy could wind up being me having to upload ALL my I think 109 emoticons onto Blogger AGAIN so that I now have them with the https designation.

I think tomorrow I'll at least conduct a test and upload 3 or so emoticons to see if the theory is correct.

Ahhh yes, I forgot to address your previous wondering about my Welcome Post's date of Sunday November 1, 2020. No, I'm not a Terminator Cyborg from the future. It's that another of Blogger's various shortcomings is that it does not have an official Sticky Post function. Back when I started my Blog there, I Googled to see how the heck I could accomplish an equivalent of that function. I believe I found 2 options. And the option that I used was to set some future date to any post to which you want to assign Sticky Post status. And that's what my Welcome Post has so that it always stays on top of the page.

Thanks for explaining the date - I thought it's another 'bug'. :D
Kindly let us know how it works out.

Just in case it helps out someone else, I do appear to finally have fixed the problem on my Blog whereby the emoticons and images had stopped displaying in my comments.

However, it is a very weird, inexplicable situation what the root cause was and what fixed it. It's almost as if a Code Gnome or a Code Gargoyle or a Code Gremlin did some mischievous messing around in my Blog template's code without my knowledge.

Running on fumes of hope and patience, I had been running around Googling for different code that I could try to display emoticons & images in my Blog's comments. Today I finally came across this link with some code: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/blogger/a7yc_0DeglU All excited, I thought, "Woo Hoo! Different code! Maybe this will fix my problem." Well, to my surprise, when I went into my Blog template's HTML ... that so-called different, NEW code that I thought I had just found WAS what was actually already IN THERE! o_O

I went, "Www WHAT? No way! That can't be!" o_O That's because all this time, THIS is the link I have had bookmarked in my Opera browser as being the code that I was using in my Blog to display emoticons & images in my Blog's comments. http://helplogger.blogspot.com/2012/03/add-videosimages-in-bloggerblogspot.html

I then figured, "What the hey? Since the code that I thought was in there isn't actually in there, I'll just trying putting it in there and see what happens." So, I deleted the other code and installed the code that I had had in my Opera bookmarks all along. Lo & behold ... BAMM! The emoticons and images now displayed just fine in my Blog's comments. :D

While my Blog is now back to working normally, it still leaves 2 huge, mysterious questions:
    (1) Regardless of that the code that I had to replace because it was no longer working -- was NOT the code that I thought was in there ... why did it stop working? I haven't made any changes to my Blog template in ages. Why did it just up and stop working like 8 or 9 days ago?

    (2) Why, how did the code that I thought was in there wind up NOT being in there and then mysteriously winds up being the code that not only fixes the problem, but also the one that I had bookmarked all along?

Ehhhhh, whatever. As long as it's now working. As Scotty would say on Star Trek, "But Captain, it makes no sense." That's the trouble with Tribles ... Code Tribles in this case.

I'll go check out that other thread, Eldon. Maybe there I can find the answer to how someone could mistake a 70 Chevelle for a 57 Chevy. Hah Hah Hah! :D
