I've got a question.. I was going to buy a 50-60 dollar blood pressure reader for my family member. And I see one in the add at Menards for Black Friaday for 10 dollars!? I am going to try to post a picture..(hopefully isn't to blurry) and maybe you guys can give me your opinion to buy this 10 dollar one or go to the 50-60 dollar ones at Walmart. Walmart has these small wrist ones to for 40 some dollars.. But I just don't want to by a cheapo item that is important to reading the blood pressure. So if its ghetto tell me and Ill just spend more at Walmart. Thanks

If I have learned anything taking care of my elderly grandmother, don't skimp out on bp monitors.

Im unsure of the one in that picture, but we have a similar style one here, and its broken. BP monitors seem to break easily, esp. low end ones.

If you buy quality product at the start you will get years of service instead of having to buy a new one every 3 - 4 months.

My wife has to keep a control every day so we bought a hospital quality one with a charger and it is still perfect after 4 years.

Words of wisdom. True that. Get a good one to start with and you won't go wrong.

I've got an eight year old Sunbeam mid-range cuff monitor and it's still going strong. I'd stay away from the $10 crap as that's the results you'll probably get, also get an auto-inflate type of machine especially if it's for an older member of the family, my then 80 year old mom had no problems with it but probably would have had a harder time with the manual type.

I have no experience with the wrist types but again, get a quality machine and recognized good brand name.

Agree with all - don't compromise on quality.
Got a couple of the good old mercury and hand pump BP monitors, which strap on the upper arm and require the Stethoscope. Hospitals and GP's in India still use them :-D
Learnt how to use them when I was ten for my Grandmother. Sent them in for calibration - but they did not need any work. :)
    Cheers..

GP's still use them here but the hospitals use the auto-inflation electronic ones for nurse efficiency. Anyways, back to the topic at hand.;)

I have one of the wrist type, Dan bought it for me for $20 something. I took it to the doctors with me and compared it to the one they use and it was right on.

Silas, look for a good brand. Don't fool with the economy one. I have a "Reli-On" and it is auto with memory and very accurate. http://www.relion.com You can also get different size cuffs for it too. Been good to us;) You can pick this up at any pharmacy, K-Mart, Wal-Mart, etc..

    I have a Lifesource UA-767, but I have a need for a large cuff.....

BP has been a fun ride the last few weeks here.
