I just built myself a new computer, and I have no audio :(.

    Specs:
-Intel Core 2 Duo e6750 (mildly overclocked to 3.0Ghz until I get a stability tester...no internet at home yet)
-DFI BloodIron P35-T2RL (with onboard HD audio)
-4GB RAM (though XP only sees 3.25 of course)
-Fresh install of Windows XP SP2, but with no internet, I've downloaded no windows updates.

After installing windows I tried installing all the Drivers on the disk that came with the motherboard, but of course the RealTek HD audio failed to install.

This leaves device manager with a RealTek HD audio item, but it can't be updated, reinstalled, removed, or disabled because it "may be required to boot the computer".

I've tried disabling the onboard HD audio in the bios under integrated peripherals, then installing the xpsp2 version of the MSHDQFE, then the setup.exe that comes with that package which seems to install the driver, but then if I reenable the onboard HD audio in the bios, it still doesn't work.

I've looked at the various other threads on realtek, and there's a few things I haven't tried, so I'll do that tonight, but I thought I'd post this in case they don't work and someone knows specifically what to do in the case of the DFI BloodIron mobo.

It seems that MANY people have problems with the RealTek HD drivers on many different brands of motherboards. Generally speaking, the chipset software must be installed first, then the UAA driver, then the audio driver, with a reboot between each install. There's several threads here at MG about this with plenty of detailed steps. Just use the 'search forum' tool and you'll find what you need.

I saw your thread earlier today and didn't really want to tackle it, because as dlb said Realtek can be a pain. I have about a 50% ratio at fixing Realtek HD. They are that stubborn.
Basically, Realtek should be uninstalled to get a proper install. But as you said, sometimes it won't uninstall. (I haven't got this figured out why, yet)
    Try this:
    1. Boot into Safe Mode
    2. Open Device Manager, go to System devices
    3. Disable (DO NOT UNINSTALL) the Microsoft UAA driver.
    4. Reboot into Safe Mode again (This is so that driver will not load)
    5. Open Device Manager, go to System devices
    6. Now... uninstall the Microsoft UAA driver. This should also remove the Realtek audio.
(Check Add/Remove Programs to see if Realtek Audio is gone, if not try uninstalling it)
    7. Reboot to Windows XP (normal boot).
    8. Do not let Windows install your drivers. Say "No" to the New Hardware Wizard.
    9. Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

    Install your driver.

I had printed out about 8 different solutions to try from various places, but yours worked! I did see you post this solution in another thread, but at the tie the ms uaa bus wasnt appearing in my system devices

I followed it verbatim (i did have to uninstall the realtek hd from add/remove).

I did not uninstall the kb888111 first, nor did i do the cleaner. after rebooting in normal mode the third reboot, i simply installed it. Finally my 2 weeks of audio-less-ness are over. And a mere 12 hours before a LAN party too.

    Thanks so much!
