    Hi Guys,

Just had a guy from leading edge computers come out and replace my system memory (512MB Stick) becuase I was getting errors etc every now and then, mostly pointing to memory leakage.

Anyway, I felt like giving the pretty boy a good ole smack,he just pushed the box and the speakers are ontop, around, slammed the memory chip in with a thud, then it wouldn't boot, so he had to take the side off again, then refit the memory module, then it worked.

Geeze are all of them this bad, he didn't take one ounce of care, a care mechanic takes more pride in his handling.

He was a nice enough bloke to talk to, cannot critize him them, but his methods of work are shoddy, he treated it like I didn't own it, like he just didn't care!

    I`m so angry right now!

I call it the "I know what I'm doing syndrome" at first everyone treats thier computer like its made of glass that will shatter at any minute, after a while you learn how much you can push and shove things

Just a theory but when these guys are trained "even if they are trained which he probably wasnt" they watch the mentor treating the computer like it isnt made of glass and they think "Hmmm he really knows what he is doing" this then translate to them being super rough when working on someone elses computer to give off that same vibe of "I know what I'm doing" but they often go overboard with the rough stuff to compensate for the fact they dont really know what they are doing

That make sense to anyone:confused: am I just gassin:confused: :)

    Nah, makes sense!

Will now I am really pissed! The computer is now hard resetting! I was just surfing this board, then all of a sudden my machine reset (As if I had a reset button on my case)

    Hmmm, now I`m peeeved!

Just did it again, as I clicked post reply to the message above!

    Dammit!

I opened the case, took the memory module out, re-sitted it, now lets see how it goes! I`m actually shaking in anger!

I rang him, told him what was going on, suggested I bring the PC in so that can run diagnostic software on it, or place another order for memory. then he put me on hold and came back suggesting he order a new stick of memory and a new board. then when it arrives they come out pick the PC up and take it to the shop, install the mem, board, then test.

I said I don't really have a choice in the matter! Dammit!

Did it again, this time not posting, just a constant BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

I dont know how long its going to be up for, so here's hoping.

He said to do a process of elimination, take my GF6600GT out, try, then swap the memory to DIMM2, etc

Well I took the videocard out, tryed, fail, wouldn't post.

Changed to DIMM2, now im in windows, dont know how long for....

If you suspect memory errors, download and run Memtest86+. Let it run a full course, which takes a while. THEN call the support bozo. Grab it here:

It is still doing it guys, I just quickly got on to let you know I wont be on for a while till it gets repaired, looks like the board got damaged in the install :( So it crashes within 5 mins, got to wait for a new memory stick and mainboard :(

I hate dealing with tech people like that. I always feel like I am getting ripped off, like taking my car to the dealership. Anyway, after finding this site I will never take my computer somewhere to get it fixed. So far I have replaced the heatsink in my laptop and built my own custom pc. If I have a problem I fix it myself with MG help of course. Those "tech" people are always condescending and always make me feel dumb.

    Hi Guys,

Well a cool guy came out today, about an hour ago and replaced the mainboard, and guess what, same DAMN problem! Wouldn't post, then would, then wouldn't. sometimes beep, sometimes no beep!

Anyway, we assumed it could be a number of things, specifically the RAM again, or (Shudders) the processor!

Well he wanted to take the computer but I just didn't want that, its onsite warranty, and perfectly speaking, I have a trust issue after seeing how damien @ Leading Edge treated it!

I rang a friend and asked if I could borrow a memory module off him, low and behold!

    IT WORKS!

*Touch wood, crosses fingers, prays to the gump lords!*

Now I have 256MB memory in this machine and its chuggin along like a snail, but atleast it works!

I was getting so angry, monday my machine got turned into an expensive paperweight! And today my hopes got shattered, becuase it wouldn't work again!

    Until NOW ;)

Acer really need to re-think who they use as a warranty gaurantor, becuase the guys at leading edge, are asses! I rang and spoke to his boss regarding his workmanship, his boss didn't care, his words were "Damien is very experienced for his age, and I trust him completely!"....

When I asked about what he was going to do to fix my machine, it worked before his tech touched it! He said nothing, ring acer and we`ll install a new board/memory when they arrive, even when I declared it wasn't acers fault, rather his technician!

After that I threatened consumer affairs, he smugly said go ahead, I did too!

But this is where it gets interesting, when I explained the situation to Consumer Affairs Darwin, the lady was nice and all, when I mentioned the bosses name, her voice changed and she tryed to flog me off, asking me to ring them and try settle it civily! HA!

Darwin - We're doing it tomorrow!

Just as of note too, the guy that came out today and installed the new motherboard, he knew what he was doing! Not just a smiley face, but brains to go with it!

I was getting a little upset when the new motherboard was installed but no comprehendy! I felt like kicking it thru the window, stuff throwing it! too much energy!

But anyway, he was, new his stuff, and treated the workmanship that you "Expect"! His name is Peter @ Darwin Business Machines!

Thankfully this PC is up and running atleast, I was freaking out a fair bit, getting anxious, angry and upset over the whole situation, I am going to tear Leading Edge Computers a new ringer though! He picked the wrong dude to try and screw over! better end it their I am working myself up and I should'nt be using that language!

Thanks for listening guys, and GT for the program!

Thank MajorGeeks for hosting the program. I just pointed you there. ;)

Is Darwin Business Machines work covered under your warranty? I hope?

If it works and is stable with that current stick of ram, you've nailed the old ram as defective. You shouldn't have any problems getting it replaced. If they'll let you, just have them send the ram and put it in yourself. Simple enough.

Darwin business machines was the company Acer sent the board and memory to! then they came out, so yeah it's covered by warranty, although it didn't look to good with a GF6600 sticking out of the machine, that I manually bought and installed. Yikes!

Also I ripped the PSU out, becuase it was only a 300 watter, and put a passionate 400 watter in! :)

Got a tongue lashing for that, I only changed the PSU monday becuase the original guy from leading edge computers that stuffed the mainboard and memory, said it could be the GF6600GT now causing the puter to not boot, or have these problems, etc and even when I removed the GF card and plugged the monitor into the onboard VGA, same problem.

But as an extra precaution I grabbed this 400 watter off a mate and put it in, becuase I have a 180GB SATA Barracude, 16x16x DL DVDRW, GF6600GT, 3066MHz CPU, and only a mere 300Watts.

Just as a side note, I`m still using the 256MB memory, got a call from Peter @ Darwin Business Machines, cannot get out today, will be sometime in the morning, so this PC sits here now with the side panel off awaiting the final component, then I`m closing it up and it can stay AS IS!

The logitech 5.1 Speaker system I have are popping though, randomly! Very weird indeed! These are the speakers I have, they pop if they are on and someone opens the fridge, turns a light on/off, etc (Even if the PC is off, and the speakers are the only thing on, this happens!)

    http://www.logitech.com/lang/images/0/12563.jpg

But this time its popping more, and no lights or anything else are getting turned on/off, or whatever, this is darn strange.......
