Blu ray no sound through optical

This is actually a blu ray player question but i figure someone here could know the answer cause we all smart and stuff!

When using my blu ray player for netflix or regular dvds there is no problem getting sound to my surround sound system.

The problem occurs only with blu ray disks. it will not xfer sound to the sound system via the optical port while using blu ray disks.

ideas?

again, sound works fine with anything from the dvd player except blu ray disks.

 

Only idea I have is settings.

Check your bluray disc playback settings on the device.

 

Thats a thought but the player would have to have special settings for blu ray over everything else with sound since netflix and regular dvd's work fine.
