Blue error screen followed by computer turning itself off

Two days ago I had just started my computer up and everything loaded just fine.. About one minute after it was loaded up my screen went blue and was filled with text followed by the computer shutting itself off. It went by so fast I was only able to catch that it was some kind of windows error, it was shutting down to prevent further damage and I think something about a missing file or program. I've never ran into this kind of problem before and my computer skills are above most people I'd like to think.. I've tried everything I can think of and can't seem to find the reason for this. Now when I start my computer up it takes a good four minutes to get to the log in screen and once I log in I get the blue screen of death followed by a extremely slow load up for my start up programs. Recently I downloaded Ashampoo Winoptimizer6, CCleaner, Super AntiSpyware and Malware Bytes from this forum and those along with LOTRO (Lord of the rings online) are the only new programs I've downloaded in the past month. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the wall of text. :'x

    Greetings, Ayye.

We need more information from you:

Download and install Everest, a free system information tool.
Run Everest and click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next - Choose System Summary Only > Next -Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate.
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as that's an easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop).

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.

Also, go to Control Panel, System, Advanced System settings, Startup and Recovery settings, and make sure 'Automatically restart' is unchecked - this will force the machine to record the crash data.

Another shot - start the machine in Safe Mode, see if your symptoms change.

Couple of more quickies: see if you've got a Restore Point prior to the installation of the programs you mentioned - don't know your OS, but the paths should be logical.

And, if there's any question about malware causing this, go through the Malware Forum's Read & Run Me First thread, and attach the requested logs to a new thread in that forum.

Sorry, I meant to add that in but forgot on my first post. I'm running Vista, I've ran my Spyware/Malware/Virus scans and all have came up clean. I also don't have any restore points, I kept meaning to make one but it always got put aside for something else.

    The Everest report is attached

I found a picture of what happened online, I'm attaching it to this post. I'm not sure if this says the exact same thing mine did but it looks exactly the same.

All BSOD are white printing on a blue background. Since there are so many different errors possible, we need to know exactly what yours says not one that is similar looking to yours but might be a completely different error.

Like I stated, no idea what it said.. It gave me about a half second to read it before it shut down my computer.

    Download BlueScreenView
    No installation required.
Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and attach it to your next reply.

Tried that.. Seems I don't have a error report on there.. Because it doesn't seem to be scanning and there is nothing for me to select when I open it to save.. :'x

Windows makes its own restore points, unless the service has been manually disabled.

    Did you do these?

Yes I did those. Safe mode had no real affect, because the slow loading is before I even log into my account on this computer (I have guest and me), no idea what that screen is called but that is where it takes a minute or two to load where it used to only take a couple seconds. Also, until today i have had no BSODs, crashes or freezes, but today my entire computer froze including the mouse and keyboard before my startup programs had even loaded. Had to hard shutdown my computer.

Make sure, your settings are correct....

    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel (Start>Control Panel in Vista).
    2. Double-click System.
    3. Click (Advanced system settings link in Vista, then --->)the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
    4. Make sure, there is a checkmark in Write an event to the system log.
    5. In the Write debugging information list, click Small memory dump (64k) (128K in Windows 7).

Well.. I got another BSOD. This time I took a picture of it so I have all the information. But this is the weird part. It BSOD, then after I booted the computer back up I logged in to my account and went to open Google Chrome to update this post but before I could even get my second click in my computer restarted itself.. But it stayed off for ~10 seconds in which time it beeped six times. My computer beeped, not my speakers. Then it started back up and said windows had been shut down improperly and now it's running just as slow as usual since the first BSOD. :'x

    Here's what the BSOD said:
At the very top under A problem has been detected and windows is bla bla bla is said- IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Then under technical information it said- *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x007BFCC0,0x00000002,0x826FFD76)

6 beeps are listed only for AMI BIOS: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm
Means: Keyboard controller Gate A20 error

    Regarding that code....
    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000383.htm

    1. Ensure the keyboard is connected to the proper port on the back of the computer.
    2. Turn off the computer and disconnect the keyboard and verify there are no bent, burnt or broken pins on the keyboard connector or on the keyboard connector on the back of the computer.
    3. Try a different keyboard on the computer.
    4. Unfortunately, if all of the above recommendations do not resolve your issue, it is very likely that the motherboard may have a bad controller.

Well, I'm not totally sure if it was six.. I was in shock at the fact that my computer was beeping at me. It was something around there though. And not but two minutes after I posted that last reply it did it again. Not the beeping but another BSOD. This time before I could even choose safe mode or regular mode it froze and the screen went grey. I'm on a laptop updating this. Should I leave it like that or hard shut it down?

What is happening to your desktop right now?

It's a blue-ish black screen. But nothing. Just sitting there.

    Turn it off.
    Wait couple of minutes.
Boot to BIOS and see what brand of BIOS you have.
    Restart and count beeps.

    Boot to BIOS? Sorry. :'x

Edit: Never mind, that was a stupid question. I figured out what you mean, blonde moment I swear.

Mine wasn't at the bottom, but I think it was at the top.

Guessing Phoenix-AwardBIOS is the BIOS version I have? Computer is slowly booting up so a can restart and coutn beeps. Will post once it does

I restarted and it didn't beep? Was I supposed to restart it from the BIOS menu some how or what?

It doesn't matter. You did fine :)

    What's the situation right now?

Well, I went back to the BIOS screen thinking I had to restart it from there.. And while waiting for your reply of what to do next I didn't touch my computer at all.. Went to exit BIOS and now I'm frozen there.

Should I shut down again? :/

    Yes, you can.
You must have some hardware issue there.
I'll be going to bed, so hopefully someone else will chime in here, or we can continue tomorrow.

Thanks for helping. I'll be checking regularly for new posts on this thread so whenever you get on I should be back to you soon.

I can't even get on my computer anymore.. Before my start programs load up it freezes. Doesn't even BSOD anymore, just simply goes gray and freezes. :(

This computer is a few years old and I'll probably just end up buying a new one if I can't figure out the issue soon.. One question though, is there anyway CCleaner, SuperAntiSpyware, Malware Bytes or Ashampoo Win6 optimizer could have caused this issue? Because this whole thing started shortly after downloading them and if it is because of them I don't want to put them on my new computer.

Unless you use registry cleaner part of CCleaner, all those programs are excellent programs.
Did Superantispyware, or Malwarebytes actually found anything?

  30. Ayye

    Ayye Private E-2

I used the registry cleaner... Is that bad?

And when I first downloaded them Malware found one program and spyware only found some internet tracking cookies.

Registry tools are not recommended and here is why: http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/registry-cleaners-and-system-tweaking_13.html

    If you have Vista DVD...

    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html

If you don't have Vista DVD...

    1. Create Vista Recovery Disc.

    Option 1:
    http://www.c4consulting.com.au/soluctions/vista/VISTA SOLUCTIONS.htm

    Option 2:
Download Vista Recovery Disc iso image: http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/
Burn it to CD, or DVD: http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/G/Burning+ISO+Images+to+a+CD+or+DVD

    2. Boot from created disk.
At first screen click on Repair your computer:
    http://img.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/vista-repair-options/setup-option.jpg
This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer. When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box:
    http://img.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/vista-repair-options/system-recovery-options.jpg
After this, it will present you with a list of options including startup repair, system restore and command prompt:
    http://www.istartedsomething.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/systemrecovery.jpg
    Try System Restore, first.
If that doesn't work, try Startup Repair.

Yeah, the server seems to be down.
Unfortunately, there is no other source of that download.
You'll have to wait and keep checking.
