Blue-ray

When will Blue-ray writers and readers be available for PCs? Can a current DVD reader read a BD? Wll a BD reader read a current DVD?

 

From what I have read. blu-ray readers and writers should be available about the same time as PS3 comes out. Aprox. November of this year. The blu-ray drives will be able to read DVD's and CD's but DVD readers will not read blu-ray.

 

Will be interesting, regarding the PS3. Considering the price of Blu-ray is so high, how will they be able to put a drive in the PS3 and make it affordable is beyond me. I can't expect them to drop that much in one year.

Sony's initial target price is ~1000 bucks for a player, and 2300+ for a PC with with a drive.

 

I dunno how they will do it. I guess it will have to come down for the target price range to be the same or so as the XBOX 360, so I guess building millions of systems of ps3 will bring the price down....? :S

 

I dont see how, even then. MS is losing money per 360. Those machiens cost more than 400.00 in parts to build, even wholesale.

 

as will ps3, playstation is notorious for losing money on there systems and just profiting from games
