    Hi guys,

I hope this is in the right section, i have used this forum in the past to sort out malware and virus problems but i have recently encountered what i assume is a hardware (or potential software) problem!

At random events (most frequently when i am browsing) my computer has recently started crashing to a blue screen with the following message on:

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    It then says below this:

    *** Stop: 0x00000001 (0xF79D0000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xF78EAE34)

    *** SS.SYS - Address F78EAE34 BASE AT F78E8000, DATESTAMP 42b30cfd

When i restart my computer the windows help thing takes me to microsoft which promptly tells me it has no idea what the problem is! (helpful!) and suggests running a hard drive scan to check for errors, but my computer wont allow me to do this for some reason...it just says "Windows was unable to complete disk check"

Whilst this is currently an annoyance more than anything sinister (my computer doesn't seem to be suffering any lasting effects from this) i am slightly worried that there is something seriously flawed with my computer!

I'm not brilliantly tech savvy, so not sure how i get my computers full spec...i recall there being some command but not sure!

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Double check that filename; I can't find much of anything on ss.sys

Yup. I found one reference, and it was from one of those sites that wants to run all kinds of scans and sell you 'registry optimizing' software. It did mention something about a "Sutherland driver" :confused But I think it's BS :crap If you're curious, here's the link: http://www.runscanner.net/fileinfo/ss.sys.html
Like sach2 said, ss.sys doesn't seem correct, and more info is needed. ;)

I can't even find a stop error with that number
    http://www.theeldergeek.com/stop_error_messages.htm

Closest thing I can find is this
The Stop 0xD1 message indicates that the system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. Drivers that have used improper addresses typically cause this error.

Thanks guys, next time my computer goes mental and does this again i'll double check the error message!

I recall it mentioning something about a software compatibility thing, so it may be that i have something conflicting with other programs somewhere!

Not sure how to solve this without removing everything from my computer but i'll see how frequent it happens now that i have cleaned my machine of the mal-ware and such!

    Thanks!
