I am working on a friends computer. It does not boot to windows. I attempted to reload XP and received the following message after Setup ran installing files, just before the format choice Stopc0000221 Unknown Hardware error\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

There are times it has booted to weindows and run extremely slowly. It does not boot to windows at all now.
    Any idea:crys?

    Re: Blue Screen ntdll.dll reference

test the harddrive for failure? or could run memtest for memory failure?

a quick seach from the Internet, though I can not validate the authenticity, says:
"The ntdll.dll file is a file created by Microsoft that has a description of "NT Layer DLL" and is the file that contains NT kernel functions.

This file is located in the c:\windows\system32 or c:\winnt\system32 directory and can also be found in the c:\i386 directory."

perhaps using safe mode with command prompt will get you close enough to see if the file is there? then have a copy to place or replace the corrupt or missing file...

more input should be sought, hopefully someone will chime in...

Reinstall the OS and if it doesn't work, then you are looking at some sort of hardware problem.

For whatever reason I had a rvery difficult time reinstalling XP. Could not complete the process attempting it 5-6 times. Was finally able to get to C:|windows prompt. Was able to format the windows directory? Could not CD dir until I did this. After that I was able to CD to C: and did a format this way. I then was able to install windows with a further format both quick and long following normal installation procedures. Computer operates fine. I still believe the ram has something to do with the circumstances, I do not know what. It recognizes it as 2 slots 256 each in Bios. In windows it measures it as 444. I ran a mem check on it recieved the following:

    INVC Succeeded
    LRAND Succeeded
    Stride6 Succeeded
    WMATS+ Succeeded
    WINVC Active and keeps running

Is this an indicator the ram is bad? The machine works fine now. Boots into windows well and no error messages.
One other thing. I had to delete the partition on the hard drive and remove the drivers which the system was using after the reload? Until I did this the
I continued to receive the same error message. Tanks for your help.
