I have tried the following but to no avail:

    -Disconnected preipheral devices
    - tried to run in safe mode
    - tried to run from boot disks; and when I do this the blue screen erorr shows the following

    Stop: 0X0000007B (0XF898663L, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

Can you boot to a diagnostic disc? Either a floppy or CD? If so, download the diagnostic tool from your hard drive maker's web site and create a boot floppy/CD from the download (they will provide instructions). Boot to it and run a full diagnostic on the drive. You should also boot to a memory diagnostic. There's a good one in the Microsoft downloads here at Major Geeks that will create either a boot floppy, or an .ISO CD image. You'd create a bootable CD from the image (or make a boot floppy) and boot to it and press 'T' for the extended tests.... if you cannot boot to anything, then you may need to remove the HD from the PC, hook it up to a functioning PC and run the diagnostics from there.... good luck!

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I ran the diagnostic checks (quite extensive ones) provided by the PC supplier (Dell). All the checks all passed.

I will try what you have suggested and see if it works. It has been also suggested that I install a new HD and relegate the current one to a secondary status (slave). Will this work and also allow me to recover the data on from the current one.

I should have mentioned that my current PC was subject to a sneak attack by AntivirusXP2008. It by passed the McAfee protection. I removed it with help from McAfee, but the blue screen error started to appear.

    Again, thanks.
