    Hello everyone,

    OK, I have a problem...My computer is a Dell Deminsion 4600(few years old)..At start-up I am getting a blue screen error....it says:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the file: nv4_disp

If this is the first time you've seen the Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this appears again follow these steps:

The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.

Please Check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

    Technical information:

    *** STOP: 0x000000EA (0x81BE2BE0, 0x82BB158, 0x82183538, 0x00000001)

    nv4_disp
    Beginning dump of physical memory
    Physical memory dump complete
Contact your system Administrator or technicial support group for further assistance.

    --------End of error message------

Now i have the device driver CD's but can't get "out" of the blue error screen to try and run them!! Anyone had this error before?? Know how to fix it?? What causes it?? Any ideas?? Please help me!!

    Thanks

nv4_disp...sounds like you have an Nvidia vga and the display (disp) driver is probably corrupted.

IMO, think you need to uninstall and reinstall the vga driver.

Have you tried putting the error message (whole or in part) into a search engine.

    Good luck

I've gotten this error a couple times too... My games keep freezing and looping the sounds and if I don't close the game it'll bring me to the error screen... I've reinstalled the nvidia driver a couple times but no go... Can anyone else help?

This issue might occur if the display driver is caught in an infinite loop while it waits for the video hardware to become idle. This issue typically indicates a problem with the video hardware or that the display driver cannot program the hardware correctly.
To try and resolve this issue, you could obtain and install the most current driver for your video adapter after uninstalling the old, or if this is unsuccessful it may be necessary to replace your video card.

    I am only guessing though!

If you want to work around this issue, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
    2. On the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshoot tab.
    3. Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None, and then click to clear the Enable Write Combining check box.
    4. Click OK, and then click OK.

Note This procedure prevents the display driver from programming the hardware incorrectly, but you may lose some display functionality and performance. Although you can increase the hardware acceleration settings higher than None to regain functionality and performance, these settings increase the chance that the issue will occur again. For maximum stability, leave hardware acceleration off.

    Regards....
