Hey all. I have been experiencing random blue screen errors ever since the upgrade of my computer from xp 32 to windows vista 64 bit. These errors happen every 2 to 5 days while the computer is running. Most of the time I have noticed that the stop error code is different every time. Some other upgrades I made at the same time were increasing the RAM and processor to the maximum the computer allows. I have analyzed and attached the debug file for the last error. I also attached detailed information on the system itself. Any help is appreciated.

PS. I suspect Itunes could be the cause of the problem. The reason is because when viewing the event viewer the last event before each crash is always IPOD service not found.

I took a quick look at your BSOD.TXT file, and while I'm far from a bugcheck minidump expert, I did see the file wmpnetwk.exe listed. This is a file associated with Windows Media Player (thus the wmp). Maybe install the newest version available if you haven't done that already, or remove the version you have now (if possible) to "roll back" to the previous version. If you think it's an iTunes problem, back up your iTunes music and uninstall/reinstall it. You might also run a full memory diagnostic. I use the bootable Windows Memory Diagnostic from Microsoft. IIRC, the download allows you to create a bootable floppy disk (for those still living in 1998) or an ISO file to be burned as an image to a CD. Then boot to it, press "T" for the extended tests, and let it run at least 3 or 4 full passes. It will take some time, so go out for a pizza and a movie.... if the memory is faulty, this program will let you know and you can take action as needed (swap memory sticks). If the test appears to lock up, it hasn't. I have run this test MANY MANY MANY times (probably more than 500 times in my line of work) and it has NEVER locked up. Some tests run slower others (like test #7 for example). Just leave it alone. If you get no errors after 3-4 full passes, then you know the memory is not at fault.... and I personally do not think this is a memory problem, it's likely a Windows (or Windows Media Player) problem....

On a disconnected but remotely related note: do you have an ATI video card installed? If not, did you previously have one installed? Years ago, when I switched from an ATI card to an Nvidia card, I started getting BSOD errors when browsing thru my folders of pictures and/or videos. It was caused by a leftover file from the ATI drivers that did not uninstall completely.....

Thanks. I will try these out.

I just thought of something else that has been a problem since the upgrade. Sometimes when starting the computer it loops back to boot screen over and over until you either hit f1 for the bios menu or shut it off. I opened the case and wiggle the HDD cable to get it to come back.

After realizing that could be the problem, I just replaced the SATA cable to the hard drive. Could a bad connection to the Hard drive cause a blue screen?

The original graphics were ATI Radeon Xpress 200 integrated. I added a NVIDIA Ge Force 8600 GT and selected PCI-E as the new graphic controller.

If I get another error after the cable replacement and trying your steps I will make another reply. Thanks for all of your help.

I received another error yet again. This one was completely different that the last. I have not tried any of the options recommended but will tomorrow. Hopefully this second log helps.
