I was doing some video editing the other day when for the first time my compute froze, shortly after i got the evil blue screen of death came up and it said something about stuck in a loop. I restarted and over the speakers it kept saying "system failed VGA test". I restarted it about 4 times and suddenly it switchs on normaly with the voise saying system loading to windows, so of corse i had a look around the system and everything seemed to be ok. I played some high graphic games which showed that it was ok.

Then this morning on start up i get the "system failed VGS test" again, so i restarted it another few times and what do you know it comes on as normal after a few tryes. I looked in my motherboard manual and it says that the voise means "Install a PCI VGA card into one of the PCI slots, or a 1.5v AGP card into the AGP slot." and "Make sure that your VGA/AGP cardis not defective".

Now i've had this card for quite a while and it's been very reliable, and the fact i was playing some high graphic games later on that day seems to suggest it should be fine and when it crashed to the blue screen i wasn't playing anything on the video editing just dragging a clip on the timeline. Anyone have an idea how to fix?

    I have:
    AMD athlon XP 2800+
    Radeon 9800 Pro
    A7N8X-E Deluxe
    1GB ram

most likely your video card is going bye bye.

    try reseating it.

the best thing to try is: put the video card in a known good machine. and see if you get the same error.
if you can't do that you can try a good card in that machine, and see if you don't get a error, then you know it was that video card; but if you do still get the error with that known good card in it, then it's something else, and let us know.

hope i haven't over explain too much

    good luck.

Damn i didn't want to buy another graphics card untill i updated to a 64 bit system, oh well :( I'll try what you said i think i have my old card lieing around somewhere, if it is the card is there any graphic cards you can suggest? My motherboard supports AGP8X/4X cards and i need one as good as or better than my Radeon 9800 Pro, around the £100-£130. Needs to support new games so pixelshading a must. Graphics cards arn't my forte you see hehe.

I have plugged a different card in and so far no errors have come up so now i just need to find a better one.
