Ok, i recently upgraded to A64 system and now i get blue screens of death.... I dont know why either. One day i started playing CoD2 and it froze, i couldnt Alt+tab out, no control alt delete no alt f4... So i restarted.. and i got blue screen of death... So i deleted my C partition and created a new one and reinstalled Windows.... and i got it again.... WHAT THE HECK?? I didnt just reinstall windows, i tried about 5 more hours of different methods but nothing worked.... So, here i am in the new fresh install... While playing battlefield 2, It froze, flashed the BSOD for a few seconds and then restarted.... I want to monitor my temps but i dont have any programs yet...

I use ASUS Probe for my CPU which runs at around 35C under load... I dont know what my GPU runs at (X800GT) and i would like to know... Are there any programs that let me monitor my vid. card temps? Just incase the BSOD is because of hardware failure?

I also thought it could be my harddrive as it recently started making scratching noises, it was totally silent before... HELP!

I now think that its because of my video card (running OC'd at 522 Core and 552 Mem.... Max overclock according to ATITool...)

Could a GPU overheat cause a BSOD and system restart?

Ok, I managed to read a line in the BSOD.... this is what it says

"PAGE_NOT_FOUND_IN_UNPAGED_AREA" Or something almost exactly like that..

Then it says "if this is the first time.... blah blah blah, Major harware change blah blah blah"

Ok, talked to a few people and they all said some different things.. One said one of my HD sectors could be going bad... Another said to do a fresh XP install (which i already did) another said to completely reformat (im not going to, too many invaluable files) another said to defragment (im doing now)

Had the page not found error alot, i believe it was my HDD sectors going kaput on me, I had to completely reformat. Invaluable files? burn em onto a cdrom, or pass em to another computer; I dont see how you can put value into something virtual. Did you try using less pieces of ram?

I only have 2 pieces of ram... both 512MB... I switched one to another computer and used it then pput it back in my current rig...

Anyways, Did the COMPLETE reformat fix it for you? I was going to get a new HDD anyways because mine began to make that scratching noise that used ones make... It is a Maxtor and is 7200RPM though..

And i mean invaluable files as in Games i buy off of websites that download directly to my PC, Songs i purchased, stuff i downloaded, configurations.... I would HATE to have to set all this up again... but i am interested in knowing if a full reformat will do the trick..

Also, about a few days ago i had to pop my XP Pro disc back in to use the Recovery Console and used FixMBR and Fixboot commands... it fixed it then it said Hal.dll was missing, so i fresh installed XP...

The fix, as I recall was a temporary thing, I think it lasted very few months after that massive format.

Sigh.... For a new HD, whats a good SATA 2? Im thinking of going for a Raptor... 74GB...

Are there other good HDD's for around the $100 mark though (bigger than a 40GB though, with long lastingness)

SATA II is only good if your running a buisness / server rack, beyond that dont bother. Raptors are SATA I but they're rock solid in performance, don't think you'll find em for 100$ though.

Well, are SATAI compatible with SATA2 connections? I was going for a SATA2 anyways because i use my PC for a CS Server sometimes... Anyways, I know someone who will give me the "Special Friend" Discount over at bestbuy for a raptor.... $100 bucks flat... Finally Best Buy has a good deal!

Do you mean if SATA II connections compatible with SATA I? Then the answer's no. CS server defently doesnt need something as sophisticated as SATA II, SATA II mainly provides enchanced security features over IDE/SATA I. Anyways you keep saying your buying a raptor (sata I) but you keep pushing SATA II issue, what gives? im confused.

Whoops, i meant to post the stuff about the raptor in another thread.... Ill be using that raptor for a server/ network pc. Anyways, I plan on getting a SATA2 drive mainly due to the fact that the cables are SO MUCH neater than IDE... And the fact that SATA2 is better and around the same price.

You need an SATA II compatible motherboard, and SATA I has the same cables.

Hrm... this is interesting... I ran MemTest (after my brother told me it could be a memory failure) and this is what it reported...

"Error found with word pair #51778779 or 51778777 (either could be source)"
"Error found with word pair #80989324 or 80989290 (either could be source)"
"Error found with word pair #17602862 or 17602463 (either could be source)"
"Error found with word pair #90066618 or 90066008 (either could be source)"
"Error found with word pair #96258665 or 96258538 (either could be source)"
    5 Errors

Interesting.... This could mean one word pair in BOTH my sticks of ram are bad..... Which means i have to buy new ram (cries).. I like my Corsair ValueSelect though..

Originally when i began typing there was only one error.... Now over the course of this post, there have been four more...(maybe more to come) Whats some good ram i should consider buying? I mean like 1 GB dual channel kit for around the $100-$150....?

After upgrading my mobo, CPU and vid card.... i dont have a whole lot to spend on ram... but i dont want more cheapo ram that is going to crap out on me in this system...

    Error's on your memory?
Before ya just toss em, check your Mem timmings & voltages.
Incorrect voltage or timmings can result in errors.
Some memory uses more voltage than other's, more voltage = more heat, excessive heat can also cause mem errors, more Voltage may require aditional cooling.

Ya might also check your PSU, if voltages are not stable this can also cause your mem to error.
Freeze ups & Blue screen's can also be sign failing PSU.

SATA II is supposed to be backwards compatible.
I've heard end of year WD raptor going to SATA II, it wont make em any cheaper, thier already overpriced!

Sorry if you answered any of this already. I scanned over what was said and didn't spot any of it, but here goes:

Overclocking can cause so many problems it's not even funny.
especially when you overclock a video card.
Did you try to clock it back to normal first? How about your power supply? Is it beefy enough for all the hardware you are running? How old is the power supply?
As far as the ram goes, did you try removing one then the other to eliminate a bad stick?

Well... Im RMA'ing both sticks of RAM to corsair, because one ram stick has always been identified as "Xerox" and has always had different timings than my Corsair brand RAM (Xerox brand was supposed to be corsair)

Thank god for the Lifetime warranty!!

Well... here i am reading about other peoples problems... Ive read a few things...

Just for those who dont know i recieve the following error:

    "PAGE_FAULT_IN_UNPAGED_AREA"

Attached is a picture of there error "its not EXACTLY what i get but its close enough..

Ive read uninstalling nVIDIA Network Access Manager works.. Ive read people are getting this problem with maxtor drives (which i have) I read that uninstalling nVIDIA sound drivers helps this?

All i have done is uninstall the Network Access Manager... I will buy a new WD 160GB harddrive soon enough... And im not going to uninstall the sound drivers because that seems ridiculous...

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

NOTE : This is the LAST day im using the ram i have, i am RMA'ing it tonight and getting a new pair of the same ram...

Solved my own question... i just had to uninstall nVIDIA Network Access Manager, which seems to be the problem for a lot of people!

Why would you have been running nvidia's network access manager
    on an ATI card?

I had no idea what NAM was... i thought it was for networks (which i am on) and i installed it.. Uninstalled it and stopped getting the error.
