I keep having the blue screen show up
or my computer says it cant start up
or if I leave my computer is left on overnight, it will go to a blue screen

If I restart it, it restarts fine......and works fine...so what is wrong with it?
    malware?
I got my asus 2 years ago via amazon.com, it came pre-loaded with MS office,I did have to buy a product Key card, so can I reformatt it?
I keep all my files(music, videos, Word files) on an external HD, so I can throw this computer away and have everything I need...but what do I do to get this to not have any issues

Hi my friend , you can try to disable automatic restart showing the error of your bsod

Start - Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Startup and Recovery window - uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart - push ok in Startup and Recovery window - ok to in the System Properties window

afterwards you are able to describe the error of bsod , even you can inform us about the specifications of your computer , download this tool

    follow the process :

    from left column choose
Summary ( wait 30 seconds until report generated )

    from bar menu select :

    File
    Save as Text file

    choose desktop as saving location

follow this process to post your machine type report

talked to the computer people at my school,, they said I'd be better off getting a new computer instead messing with this once, which they thought was having sectors for 2 yr hd going bad

what do I get to use at school and dick around online. I never went to any porn sites or other malicous sites with this computer
I have all the programs that are recommended to keep it clean, but Im not computer savvy, so the only reason Ill be ok is because I keep all my videos/pics/movies/songs on a external HD
but i'm still going to lose all my FF bookmarks....but what did I do wrong to cause my HD to fail or is 2-3 yrs the average lifespan of an ASUS computer

    Greetings, watchntv...

Hard drives go bad - that's just an immutable law of the universe, and it's why we preach about backing up important information all of the time. It's not necessarily anything that you did - there are many factors that can contribute to a drive's demise...

You can always grab your drive manufacturer's diagnostics tools and see if there can be anything to revive the drive if you need to grab any info from it. You can also create a bootable Linux disk and run the machine from a live environment from which you should be able to access the drive.

Whomever told you this laptop was not worth it, needs to take a refresher course in hardware. A dual core laptop, with 4GB of DDR3 is not a "throwaway". What I would do is clone the old drive to a new one. Preferably a solid state drive, since you don't seem to need alot of space for data storage.

And listen, if you really are going to give it up I'll give you a few bucks for it. Beware of these guys who said it was worthless, but offer to take it as a scrapper on the cheap or for nothing at all.

    Agreed with the mekanic 100%.

Grab the SeaTools software, see what the diagnostics routine can find out about your drive. Certainly won't hurt, and it may help.

Would you tell me what you mean by clone to a new drive?
I have no idea how that's done.

Using a software such as EZ-Gig, Acronis, or Easeus (free) you make an exact copy of the hard drive you have.

This can be done many ways. The easy way is a USB style device to connect the old drive to the PC (new one installed), or using the SATA ports on a desktop to connect both drives.

This is one of my favorite tools, and maybe one of the tech guys may have one:

Thanksforthe help, I dont think I could have done this. THe reason being is my computer was diagnosed as having bad sectors in the Harddrive, I took it to a computer dude,(not a chain store,, fat guy in a lil shop, who is funny as hell) and he sold me a 500gig HD, installed it and got my OS working again,

On my old computer, which I bought off amazon, it came preloaded with windows 7, so I had to buy a product key card from a store to access the MS office programs,
that would not work on my new 500gig HD, I had to break out my MS office 2007 and use that
    so I did
    then I hit a problems
    -
I cant turn off my touchpad(I usually have it off)
I cant use the function buttons(hit the FN key and then the F6 to turn brightness high F5 to make it dark)
so I took it back to the computer guy, who fixed it
    sorta
-the function keys work, but I used to see a graphic when I used a function key, now I don't

I'm trying to download programs again that I had before, what do I need to protect my computer and makeit easy to use?

    I am downloading
    -CCleaner
    -msf essientials

    what else?
    thanks
I have 3 External HDs from old computers
1 is a desktop and needs no power, it works
the other 2, when I plug them in I am told the DRIVE NEEDS TO BE FORMATTED to work

    I didnt understand
so I took one of the drives to the computer dude,

I am going to stop using external HDs for back up of my file and just use flash drives
but how do I get the one drive to be read?
