I hope I’m posting in the right forum.
    Anyways here is the issue.
    I bought a p3 shuttle board used off ebay. (mistake #1) :)
    I am using a slot 1 p3 800mhz , 100fsb, 512 L2 cache.
    I have (2) 256mb pc 133 ram, 350w power supply, radeon 64mb card.
I sent up windows xp pro on it and then placed SP2 right away. I got major video issues because SP2 was placing the wrong drivers for the card. I wiped out the SP2 video drivers and placed the proper drivers in. The video was fine however i started getting restarts. I disabled the automatic restart function and then i was getting BSOD. I removed SP2 and put on Sp1 thinking it was SP2 not working well with my hardware. still getting BSOD's I noticed that my cpu fan was shutting off as soon as it loaded into windows. Thinking that was the issue because the processor and board was getting to hot and just turned off the system to avoid damage. I tried different fans and it still does the same problem, when in dos or bios the fan works fine but as soon as it gets to windows it shuts off. I used the agp fan slot for my cpu fan and it did the trick, the fan is now working properly. Well now I still get BSOD. So at this point I’m thinking it could be the board or ati drivers but lets double check. I have swapped ram, cpu , video, nic, and audio and i still get the erros. I have another machine that works properly so i switched all the componets. still getting BSOD on this system and the other system works great. The hard drive has no errors. I started to try to debug the mini dump files but don't really know much about the errors. I noticed that it keeps mentioning page file errors and memory errors. so i have decided to run memtest to check them out. tested 512mb and got one error about about 5 passes later. I then checked the ram's individually in different slots. one piece of ram gets 8 errors on the middle dimm slot however its fine on the other 2 slots???? thinking its the dimm I placed the other ram in that same middle dimm slot and got no errors.
This is now starting to puzzle me. I then place that same ram that gave 8 errors back into the middle slot and now get no errors????
I am asking for the pros to give some help or ideas. The only thing I haven’t changed was power supply but could that really be the issue??
If anyone wants to read these minidump files I can post them or email.
I have spent endless hours on the machine and I would love to resolve this issue.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the long and dreadful story.
    Thanks

some people might shot me down for saying this but alot of people that work on computers and computer software say SP2 is full of errors and its a whole rewright of the xp system and its not a good thing to do. so you might try removing sp2 and try it thin

I'm certainly no pro and not the person to answer your question, but the restarts and lack of an answer despite moving memory and other parts around sounds a lot like my HP Pavilion 7966 with XP Home and SP1, no SP2 yet. (Also countless hours!) Oddly, I have begun to suspect the power supply.

Thanks guys, forget what people say, the truth of the matter is we are all Ginny pigs when new updates are released!! that means SP1, SP2 other updates not just Microsoft corp. I worked for a software company for many years, yes updates do solve known issues however will cause other issues. No software company is able to know how an update will work with every system or software. Its trial and error. people will start posting threads about errors resolving after an update was installed and the software company will later correct it. My answer is if it aint broke don’t fix it.
i was running windows xp corp 2600 from the very beginning with very little glitches.
I only used certain updates to correct the issue, other than that everything was flawless.
I never had SP1 until this year which at this point is working well because the known issues have been resolved, but SP2 is new so I would wait it out until all the glitches get resolved. I should have thought of this before I did the install. Live and learn.
