I was trying to upgrade my computer from windows xp home edition to windows xp prof. so i started my computer and insert the cd then it asked me whether i want to upgrade my current os or reinstall a new windows version or somthing like that. since all i wanted was to upgrade, because I have a bunch of files that would be a hassle to back up, I chose the upgrade only option. it also said that any program or file that i have will not be erased. so it started doing its thing, then halfway it prompted me saying that some .exe could not be loaded. i clicked retry and retry but it won't go. so being the smart ass that i am, having thought that it mught be from one of my programs, i just clicked ignore. and it went on and after thiry minutes or so, i just noticed that there is no progress happening. and i wated an hour and a half more but still no progress happened. so i figured it must've froze so i restarted my pc and i boot from cd and it prompted me to do three things. something like:

There is a current upgrade going on, to continue press ENTER

Install a new version of windows Press F10

Ignore and exit without installing windows xp press (somethin else)

so i clicked enter and it said something like this...

checking computer for something something compatibility or something like that.

then this black screen will appear with something like this written

    *****************GENERAL TRAP************************

then a load of things i cant understand... bunch of 00000000x0001 and things.

then it won't let me do anything to it.

knowing that if i did install a new version of windows all my files and progs will be erased, since i had no choice, i tried to install a new version. in did the windows set up and all that kind'a junk checked a bunch of things then after three minutes or so the blue screen of death will just appear. and it wont let me do anything more to it.

so now i was wondering how i could install my copy of windows xp prof to my computer. i know that there is no way that i could retrieve my files and progs again but i gotta move on. i just want a working pc. any help would be insanely greatly appreciated :D

    Hi martian :)
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with something that should be straightforward. Well what you may have here is a faulty drive? I would use another drive if you have one. They is no real reason for a brand new installation to not take place and certainly with a new disk. If this doesn't work could you please post back your PC specification's. This guide may help you
