    Hi

As your image is not showing, could you post the actual BSOD code?

What Windows Version and Service Pack?

Have you booted into Safe Mode and is it still the same?

What if anything did you install before this happened?

    Hi, does this pic display?

In safe mode the pc is fine.

could it be spyware that caused it? for some reason i think it might be on my pc as some pop ups come up saying i need to scan and buy the crappy software.

i will find out the SP and get back soon as.

    Thanks

    lists 4 possible causes:
    * Hard disk damage
    * General hardware configuration problems with the BIOS, the memory, the hard disk, or with other devices
    * Incompatible device driver
    * Incompatible software

Since you do not see the error in safe mode, I think it points to an incompatible device driver.
When did the error start to appear? Have you upgraded any drivers?

I see you are getting popups. Maybe a rogue program is trying to load also.
What software is mentioned in the popups?

    Hello, ive sorted the problem.

    thanks for the advice.

I think i might have some spyware on my PC, even though it is not showing or causing a problem.

What is the best way to go about highlighting, finding it and removing it?

    Thanks guys.

Hi, it has come back and it is worse.

Now it restarts in safe mode now.

I thought that I had sorted it when I removed a file from the start menu, it fixed it and all was fine but now it it restarts in nomal and safe mode under all users and administrator.

What can I do now as I can't even keep the pc logged on ?

    Thanks

the file that i removed from the startup was CTFMON, this fixed the comp for a few days and now it restarts everytime.

Is there anyway i can get the stuff off the hard drive then i will format it.

    Thanks

    backing up your computer

    Frequently asked questions
The first link gives you information on backing up your computer, the other link gives you information on formatting your computer, backing up registry, and just general questions you may have.
As far as restoring you ctfmon, hang on for a couple more days and see if someone here may have a better solution than reformatting your hard drive for this type of problem....

I really think u are panicing and rushing things here, you may be able to sort this without a full system format.

First off, have you tried system restore?
Have you installed any drivers as said earlier, I did not see you reply to this.
How old is ur pc and have you made any changes to it?

This could be a number of things. Why do you think it is a virus?
    What AV are you running.

If the computer keeps rebooting its self over and over before you get to the desltop then I would put my money on the Harddrive.

If you get to the desktop then It starts doing it then you either have a power problem or a software issue, which could be the drivers or it is possible it could be this virus you are talking about.

But without answering certain questions then you cant sort it out properly.

Dont panic and go through things step by step.

This is because the computer has not shut down properly.

Its like pulling the plug out without shutting down, it will start in safe mode.

hi, sorry if i am being awkward, the pc is actually a friend of mines and he cannot get on the net so he is teling me the info and im putting it on here.

i said it was rebooting when he logged on, well i have just spoken to him, it doesnt actually reboot, it just logs him off after being on the desktop for 10 seconds, it goes back to the user log in screen, it does this in safe mode and under all users.

he has just tried to do a system repair from the windows cd, it is still doing the same thing tho.

The pc is around 2 years old with xp sp2.

when trying to restore to an earlier point it just freezes.
Havent made any changes to the pc or updated anything.

Think it is some sort of virus because pop ups were coming up saying he needs to buy some antivirus software to remove it.

Norton Internet Secrity 2008 is on the machine.

He has some data that he want to keep, so he doesnt mind if he could get it off somehow and the do a format to start fresh.

    Thanks

When he installed Norton did he create a boot disk?

yes you can do this however you keep mentioning there is a virus on this machine. if that is the case and Norton did not catch it, you may infect your machine as well?

    Thanks

It's easier than you might expect but if you are not familiar with the inside of a computer it may seem challenging to you.
1 check you to see if your ribbon connecting your original drive has another connection on that same line, if not you will need to purchase another ribbon or either take the one from the computer that is having problems.
    2. you have to make sure the hard drive jumper is set to slave. go to the manufactures website for that drive and locate the jumper settings for that drive and make it slave.
    3. you have to make sure your power supply has an extra power connection. some computers have just the amount of power connections as needed for that particular model of computer.
