    Win XP:
This horrible blue screen pops up when the computer is booted or restarted. Continuously have to restart until it goes away. It gives error codes about a driver and this:
    0x000000c4 (0x00000081, 0x82756090, 0x00000082, 0x00000000)

I have looked up the 0x000000c4 on MSKB and followed the instruction about the driver verifier, but then I don't guess I understand how to tell which driver has the problem, or if I am even on the right track! I can't get it to stop, been haggling with this for two weeks and it's enough to make me lose my hair!

It should give you the name of the driver either before or after those numbers. Most likely it is "xxxxx.sys" for example. Check again. :)

Well, I have the whole big error message written down so I can research it and it never gives the name of the driver. The error says:

"Run the driver verifier against any new (or suspect) drivers. If that doesn't reveal the corrupting driver, try enabling special pool. Both of these features are intended to catch the corruption at an earlier point where the offending driver can be identified.

If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options and then select safe mode.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is an ew installtion, ask your hardware or software manufactureer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 and select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

    Technical information:
    ***STOP: 0x000000c5 (0x78fe69fb, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8053434e)

    Beginning dump of physical memory.
    Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system adminstrator or technical support group for further assistance."

The same error has occurred with the 0x000000c4 error I gave in the previous message, the rest reads the same. When I turned the verifier on to tell me which driver had the problem, I don't know how to read it....or, like I said, if I'm doing the right thing. No new software has been installed. This error has been happening for a few weeks now....

OK, so this happens when your are logged into Windows, not during bootup, right?

What are you doing when it happens?

How long does it take for this to happen?

What devices and programs are installed on your system?

Yes, it happens when the computer is booting up. It happens pretty instantly, before the desktop comes up.

There was a second error that started happening while windows was up and then it would spontaneously shut down, but the MSKB said that SP2 contained a hotfix for that one. I installed SP2 and got rid of the other error and the spontaneous shutdown but unfortunately, it had no impact on this error.

As far as programs etc go, nothing impressive. There are two printers and a scanner on it. The programs are just pixutil (goes to the scanner), ecopy (a proprietary tif viewer) and that's it other than the windows installed apps. It is a new computer, just purchased within the last 4 months or so. It is a dell but I don't have the model handy.

I think it may be printer related...but not sure...Will it do this in safe mode?
If not then remove all unnescessary devices then reinstall them one at a time till it happens

The computer boots in safe mode- I can't figure out how one day it works fine and the next day it doesn't and there have been no changes to the computer.

Can't the driver verifier tell me WHICH driver is doing it? I ran it but I have no idea what I am doing wrong or how to interpret it. I hate to uninstall everything and then reinstall and have no idea which one is causing the problem. Since it hasn't happened from day 1 that a printer or something was installed, I'm not certain that deleting everything and starting over won't produce the same results. Here's a message from someone else having this same problem:
