I was removing my Sun Java programs (spefically J2SE Runtime Evironment) when my PC restarted. I tried to start windows up in normal mode and got the Blue Screen of Death (STOP:OxOOOOOO7B). I rebooted and tried windows in safe mode but I got the same error message. I ran the boot diagnostic and got error (IDE Device Failed: Blank media or no media present in optical drive. Test requires media with digital data ((resource CD, Installation CD)). What do I do now?? Thanks for the help!!

I guess no on wants to even touch this problem. Or should it be in the software forum?

Moved to software forum, the malware forum is a closed one to only authorised users and they pick up the threads in oldest posted to newest, fairest way, in the other forums its just who fancies taking on your issue, so here you may get a quicker reply.

Not seen Java do that, so may have been a coincidence with something else.
What Windows version you using and what is make and model of your PC?

Just as a quick thing to try, enter your BIOS and make sure that the 1st boot device is your HDD, also make sure the HDDs cables are firmly connected.

At boot tap F8 and choose Last Know Good Configuration and see if that helps.

Sorry about the improper etiquette. I was following the steps to remove malware when this happened. Could it possibly be a boot virus? I am running XP and I tried last known good boot (normal mode). Got nothing. Thanks for helping.

Explain what you mean by "got nothing".
    Have you tried safe mode?
Do you have a Windows disk; not a restore or a recovery disk but a genuine MS windows disk?

Tried again last night to run windows in last known good boot. This worked once. I was again booted to the blue screen, when my antivirus software prompted me to restart to fix security threats. After that I could not reboot in last known, normal or safe mode. Hopefully this weekend I can get a hold of the XP disc and run Recovery Console.

I really have a feeling this is a boot virus. I have run boot diagnostic and have had no errors.

I thank everyone for their help. It's been great. I'll let you know how it goes.
