Hello so I just started playing assassins creed 2 but i am on the first part boys will be boys and I keep randomly getting a blue screen then my system restarts. I have no idea why this is happening i've tried it a few times any ideas. Also how can I copy and paste the error from the blue screen is it saved somewhere?

Is this happening when playing any other games?

have you installed any new hardware recently? (like a new video card, or ram?)

As far as i know, you can't, but if you go into control panel> administration tools> event viewer (may go by a different name under other operating systems to windows xp), there may be some sort of log there.

Could you post a dxdiag file? (start> run> dxdiag -click save to text file, copy paste what it says there, most importantly from system information through sound devices)

Heya thanks for the reply. I have not installed any new hardware recently when i go into event viewer i am unsure if for example it would be under applications or system?

And have you had any issues with other applications? (particularly graphics intensive ones, like games?)

Sorry, i meant to mention where/what to look for
Look in application and system. Scroll down and look for yellow exclamation marks, and red crosses.

Also, when you are pasting large blocks of text, it makes them a little smaller if you use a code box.
(type [ code] at the start of the text and [ /code] at the end of the text, without the space, or select the text and click the hash button at the top of the reply options) [below title]

No issues with any other graphic intensive games i checked in system and applications only information no error or warnings.

tried to edit, but i took too long with what i was doing

I looked at your system specs, and at the required specs, and it doesn't look like you would have any problems.
I notice that the computer is made by asus. is it a laptop?
If so it'd be rather hard to try what i was going to suggest (using a different video card (followed by ram if the problem persisted)
You could try different ram though if you have any the same

Are you over clocking at all? or is everything running at the normal speeds?

try mem test first- http://www.memtest.org and see if there is anything wrong with the ram.
no good software comes to mind for testing video cards, beyond benchmarking, but i'm sure someone could suggest something

    edit:
hmm..test the memory and post back.
are you running the latest version of the game by the way? (probably should be something to have asked earlier..)

  7. hellzscream

    hellzscream Private First Class

ya i am running latest patch also for memtest do i not need a floppy drive?

  8. F4tal3rror

    F4tal3rror Private E-2

good point..a lot of laptops don't have floppies these days.
I can't vouch for them, but it's on this site so it can't be that bad... to test your video card you could try

    Video Card Stability Test - [2008-04-15 | Freeware | 3.21 Mb | Win All | 22129 | 4.37 ]
Video Card Stability Test, 3D benchmark and 3D screensaver.

    and

    Video Memory Stress Test - [2008-04-14 | Freeware | 643 Kb | Win All | 56534 | 4.69 ]
This utility allows to thoroughly test your video RAM for errors and faults. Video Memory Stress Test includes more than 40 tests, doesn't change your current video mode, has a lot of test options and a logging feature.

edit: the other memory test software hosted here is windows 9x =/
hold on i'll have another look, but i don't think there's anything else there, or that i've used. I'd not like to recommend anything from other sites i haven't tried, but you could try googling for ram testing software?
You could technically put mem test on a usb and boot from it, but there is probably something that you would find easier around.

Sorry i haven't been able to help more

edit 2: Nah i looked, but i can't see anything else there. Unless someone else suggests something you may need to google. I've always just used mem test.
I don't technically have a floppy in my pc either, but i have one i can plug in if i want.

ugh couldn't edit previous post memtest only works from a floppy and cd right? Well i do not own a floppy drive and it will take me some time to get blank discs and i doubt my computer can boot from a usb.

some bios' support it, but it's probably more messing about than you'll want to do.
I'd suggest either googling for some other software (like i said, i could, but i wouldn't want to suggest anything i haven't used)
or..wait till someone else replies, and hope they can offer some other suggestions.

In the mean time, you could try those graphics card testing programs i linked.
