Hi, I purchased a banner creator software the other day, and when I tried to run it the screen went black, then it went blue. I got this info:

    Technical information
    STOP: 0x0000008E(0xc0000005,0x8F0A663E, 0xB3DASAAC,oX00000000)

    AV4_dispidll-AddressBFoA663E base at BF012000, Datestamp 48020126

when I loaded my computer back up it said it recovered from a serious error.

I've downloaded a lot of free software in the past but this has never happened when I paid for software.
I have ESET NOD32 5 running and it show me nothing.

I heard that sometimes if you get a virus you have to reformat your computer, and God I'm hoping I don't have to do that, plus I wouldn't know what files are bad that I would need to save.

Also, if someone put a backdoor or key-logger on my computer what would that look like and how would I find something like that?

What anti hacking, black or white hat system administration tools are there out there I can get a hold of? Are there any on here?

Lastly, I wanted to know what is the absolute strongest protect a person can get for their computer (paid or free) I've been hearing a lot about Secunia, ViPRE, etc. I want something business or government grade (free or paid) (I'm not into anything bad, but I'm afraid of those hackers out there who can steal your id and stuff.)

    Thanks Major Geeks

If you think you've been infected, the best area for advice is the virus and malware removal forum.

This being said, I would initially start by downloading and running a full scan with the latest free version of Malware Bytes. If you download, install and scan in Safe Mode with Networking (press "F8" to access Safe Mode when you start up the PC), I've found it does a slightly better job.

In the event that Malware Bytes will not install, update or remove all the infections, you can either go to the "read me first" post in viruses and malware for more detailed advice or bite the bullet and do a reformat/reinstall of Windows.

    Hope this helps. :)
