Bluetooth Connection Problems

I have a Win 10 Toshiba Satellite circa 2013 (with new SSD). It does everything I need it to EXCEPT the built-in Bluetooth died... in the Device Manager it said the Intel Wireless Bluetooth could not load drivers. After attempts to reinstall etc I decided it was broken, so I disabled it there.

Then I installed a BT USB dongle as a replacement.

I only use BT to connect my headphones (JBL Live 400BT). After a reboot, the headphones connect as soon as I switch them on and make the reassuring connection beep BUT I get no sound from them (and none from the built-in speaker either.) My workaround is to go to settings and disable then re-enable BT. The headphones give the connection beep (twice, which is weird), and after that they perform as they should.

    Any ideas welcome.
