    Greetings,

Here's an easy question for someone.

How to I most easily connect and disconnect my Win7 desktop from a Bluetooth device [speaker] ?

    DETAILS

I purchased a nice little Bluetooth boombox. It's awesome (Sharkk), and most of the time I play music through my Note 4 Android phone. Paired, enabled, no problem.

Sometimes, I want to send audio to this little boom box from my Win7 desktop, so I upgraded to a Bluetooth 4.0 dongle, and was able to install and pair the desktop with the boombox, as long as Bluetooth is turned off in the phone.

I can add a device, and pair, and play audio from the desktop to the boombox, but in order to disconnect the desktop from the boombox (and get my regular speakers back - and play the boombox from the phone), it seems that I have to uninstall, or remove the Bluetooth device from the desktop!?!

Then, when I want the desktop/boombox functionality, I must again "add a device" which involves having windows go online, find the drivers, and install it, etc.

Is there a simpler way in Win7 to disable Bluetooth on the desktop (like I can in the Android phone) so that I don't have to go online and reinstall it every time I want to make the switch?

    TIA

    DrCarl

Open Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings. Right-click the Bluetooth connection and click Disable.

I have a Bluetooth stereo speaker device that I use with a laptop. It's simple, if the Bluetooth device is powered OFF the laptop doesn't detect it and simply uses the laptop inbuilt speaker. A friend has a bluetooth usb dongle they use on a PC box. If they simply remove the dongle it doesn't affect the standard speakers.

That's the weird part. The Bluetooth connection icon there has a red "X", then, once I "disable" Bluetooth there, the red "X" goes away, and...nothing changes, nothing is disabled...as if "network" and my boombox have nothing to do with each other. Disabled or enabled, boombox still functions.

Turned off the boombox, it disconnects (duh). Turn it back on even with the Network Adapter setting disabled, and it still connects and works.

    I am so confused.

Yup. yank the dongle and it will have a hard tie connecting - lol. Same with powering off the boombox.

Still, it seems that there must be a less forceful way, like a switch?, to enable, or disable any particular device without having to yank dongles or turn off devices.

PERHAPS I have found it.... Control Panel>Devices and Printers...>right click Bluetooth device Sharkk Boombox)>Properties> Services [tab]> UN-tick 'audio sync, handsfree telephone and remote control ... and bingo. boombox disabled ... ticking those three boxes results in "connected" boombox. Yet, it has to reinstall the drivers ... sigh...

Still, there must be a more direct way....at least this way I don't have to un- then re-install it

    thanks all for your consideration

A power off is a switch. It's pretty logical. If the Bluetooth speaker is powered on what would you expect it to do but connect to the nearest shared device?? ;)

And my suggestion was either power off the speaker device, or remove the BT dongle - not both.

Why disabling isn't working for you is indeed strange.
If the following doesn't work, I'm out of options.
Click Devices and Printers on the Start Menu, right-click the Sharkk Boombox icon, and click Disconnect from device network.
