    Hello Folks;

I'm investing in a bluray player for my pc. The one I'm investing in doesn't come with software because i've heard mixed reviews about bluray player software...

Does anyone have any recommendations ? I prefer freeware but I know the one I've found I don't think has been updated in a few years (Leawo Blu-ray Player)

I will buy one if I have to, but looking for recommendations

    Thanks in advance folks.
    Ken

Because right now I don't have the Blu-ray drive. I just ordered it. But I will definitely check out the software in the morning so I appreciate the help

Let us know if 5KPlayer works.
Free Blue-Ray software players are quite uncommon.

I haven't gotten it yet but I've been doing some digging and the 5kplayer won't play blurays on disc it requires you to rip it to a file in order to play it. It recommends one spend money on Cyberlink's product if you'd like to do that.

After reading that I'm torn between Cyberlink & Corel's

I don't believe this to be true.
Also, have a look at this.

Eldon, here's my proof of the 5kplayer

Scroll down about half way it says:
    1. Check if your Windows 8/10 PC really cannot play DVDs;
The boxed Windows 8/10 laptop or desktop computer will almost certainly have DVD playback software pre-loaded by the manufacturer. If you find it plays DVDs well, then the only thing you need is to find a Blu-ray media player or a Blu-ray ripper, like Blu Ray Player for Windows or WinX DVD ripper.

As for your latest link, you posted above how a newer version is out and it's a paid version. So once I get the bluray drive which should be in tomorrow I'm going to test out cyberlinks and corel's bluray players to see which I prefer.

@Eldon, That is the plan as I have done my bit of research and right now all I can do is sit and wait till it shows up. But I know you and many other fellow geeks on this board have at times provided me with answers that I was unaware of so I wanted to do plenty of research so that I don't overlook something that I should have tested for myself.

So thank you for your time Sir, I appreciate it.

Got the drive today, tried a Trial of Cyberlink it kept telling me I needed a HDMI cable to play things, well I have a HDMI cable as I have my computer setup with a monitor and TV so after getting frustrated with it I moved on, I tried the free one.. http://www.leawo.org/blu-ray-player/
    Everything works.

    Thanks again @Eldon

    Great to know!
I did not think there would be a free player capable of playing BluRay. Since I don't own and don't plan to buy a BluRay player and none of the DVDs we own are BluRay, I'd have no way to test.

I just came across a freeware way to play Blu-Rays you just need 3 things
    1 - VLC Player
2 - Java (not the stuff you drink either ;) )
3 - DVDFab PassKey Lite (the lite version is freeware) and can be found - http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/dvdfab_passkey_lite.html

It works better than the bluray program mentioned above

Few month back I replaced my optical drive and since I thought one day I may need to play BluRay I purchased LG supporting BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE.

I just received my first BluRay disc and surprise, not that easy.

Tried VLC Player which never failed me yet, with adding keys database and AACS dynamic library files. Tried both versions of VLC 32 and 64Bit with respective KEYDB.cfg and libaacs.dll after couple hours I gave up.

Stumbling on this thread looks like I am not alone.

Downloaded DVDFab Passkey Lite 9.2.3.2 and BlueRay disc was very quickly riped to the drive. Due to my lack of experience I am not sure how to proceed from here as there is bunch of folders and files, which I do not understand.

Wondering if kennie could shine some light on his last post. It would be greatly appreciated. Also, what did you kennie find about Leawo Blu-ray Player, that you say passkey works better? Leawo Blu-ray Player, was my next choice.

I also tried DVDFab v8, created ISO file to convert it to some other format, but that did not work either. I am not interested in copying just watch the darn BluRay disc.

Hope I am not offending anybody as my intention is not to hijack this thread, rather I am dealing with exactly the same dificulty.

    Cheers

I will just say one thing, when I watch Blu-ray discs it's actually watching the disc itself and not ripping it. So I refuse to comment on it any further because what you are doing is completely different than what I was trying to do.

Then why don't you try Leawo Blu-ray Player?

    OK I understand.
I also did not think it is free. I visiteded couple sites to read up about it:
    http://www.toptenreviews.com/softwa...-player-software/leawo-blu-ray-player-review/

    https://secure.avangate.com/order/c...yer&PRODS=4551684&QTY=1&AFFILIATE=1896&CART=1

Then I discovered this site, I guess that is what you all talking about.
    http://www.leawo.org/blu-ray-player/

I will give it a try. Thank you.
