"Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline

I honestly can not recommend this highly enough to every single one of you geeks out there that likes to read Sci Fi and had any exposure to the 80s.

This was probably THE most enjoyable book I have read in a very very long time. One of those I stayed up late reading and didn't want to end.

The only reason I'm starting a new thread just for it is because of the subject matter.

This book has all elements of geekhood in it. Every old video platform, game, movie, etc are contained in a thoroughly addictive read. I'm not claiming its high end literature, although it is well written and well researched...just that it is high octane fun and nostalgic.

I know probably no one will have much reason to respond to this. I did see Triaxx read it based on the 'what are you reading' thread.

Just do yourself a favor, pick this book up (or download it). You will not regret it.

    Hi Laura

I dont tend to have time to read these days, apart from work related books and protocols but I will seriously give this suggestion of your a good thought and see if I can get it on Kindle, not got a Kindle but do have a Kindle app on my Windows Phone and PC.

    Cheers Dave.:)

I got it on my kindle, so it's available if you ever get the time. It's a pretty easy read that you can pick up and put down without issue.

I have got an E-Reader on my PC and over the holidays i read Bill Clinton's book "Back to work" but i found it to be just a Republican promo about all the things good the republicans did and all the bad things the Democrats have done (it was all George bush's fault)
I am now working my way through Steve Jobs story but it is not a page turner so i will need to look further for a riveting read.

I got my last post mixed up and it's too late to edit.
Bill was a Democrat not a Republican, SORRY to all you Democrats :-o

You did have me wondering "W.T.F.!, Bill!...LOL

I've just stared reading 'Ready Player One' not long ago and am liking it so far. It's my kind of thing, too. :)

Bill was trying to trick us all! roflmao

Have you gotten far, Phantom? I grew up in the 80s with all that stuff...that and the total gamer geeky thing had me hooked from the start.:)

When I say "reading" Laura, more like "listening" for me. Yep, it's an audio-book, (slack me, I know). But it's narrated by Will Wheaton, and he just keeps putting me to slcheeeep! :zzz (Welp, it is past 4 o'clock in the morning, Local time.):-o
But yeah, it's pretty interesting, i.m.o.

As reported in other posts my memory is shot but it does have it's advantages in that i can watch a program on TV and when they repeat it a week later i can watch it over again.

Will Wheaton? I never liked him on TNG. It's too late now as the audio book is downloading as I speak.:( We'll see.:)

It may be just me but I'd rather read it than listen to it. Even then....;) I'll give another listen when I get up.:)

I can't imagine listening to it on audio...but I'm not an audio person. I have no idea what it would be like as far as that..particularly with Will Wheaton.

    Reading it was awesome.

Agreed on both counts Laura and Augie. The read, (so far) is way better than the audio-book and yup, I didn't care for Wheaton much on T.N.G., either. ;) Haven't had time to get very far, yet - but I'll sort out some 'me' time and do so. :)

I must slightly disagree with Laura. It's easy to pick up, but very hard to put down.

Agreed for sure Triaxx. I think I had a few very late nights while reading it. :)

I meant easy to put down in the sense that you could pick it back up easily and not have to worry about forgetting anything....if you didn't have a lot of time to read.

Yeah. But see, I got home at 3:30 with it (library copy) and finished it the next morning at 8:30. I didn't actually get to sleep until 10:00.

    VERY hard to put down.

roflmao...well, I stand corrected. It took me a few days to read.

Don't feel too bad, I read fast.

What's really Geeky is that I found myself trying to figure out how to create it myself. :D
