bookmarks gone?

All my bookmarks are gone from FF. The pc crashed and i rebooted and saw to my horror about 100 booksmarks all gone. All empty?

Have i got some virus?

 

Try this:

Show Hidden Files And Folders:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Select 'Folder Options' from the 'Tools' menu
3. On the 'Folder Options' dialog, select the 'View' tab
4. Under 'Advanced Settings', select the radio button next to 'Show hidden files and folders'
5. Apply your settings.

Now you should be able to browse to c:\documents and settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles (where the name of the account you log in as substitutes for username). Here, you should see a folder named some alphanumeric string.default. In this folder should be a file called bookmarks.html

If you can open this file, you should be able to re-import them into Firefox. Check out the 'Import From File' section at this link.

If the file is there, but you cannot open it, you may be able to recover by running chkdsk.

 

They may not be gone at all - sometimes the localstore.rdf file in your Firefox profile gets corrupted, and that can cause your bookmarks to not be displayed in the dropdown menu (among other possible symptoms). if that's the problem, it's easy to fix. If your bookmarks.html file actually was wiped, still no sweat - Firefox keeps five days of bookmark backup files since v. 1.5 (I hope your not using a version older than that). See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks
