Bookmarks vanished

I use Firefox on Windows ME and this morning when I turned on my computer all of my bookmarks were gone. I tried to use the system restore function but it is unsuccessful everytime. Does anyone have an idea what's going on.

Check in your FF profile folder to make sure that the Bookmarks.htm file still exists. If it doesn't, then your bookmarks are gone for good. I've had this happen to me a few times, and it seems to be sort of random... You're out of luck if it is gone.

Maybe you're not rolling back far enough? Maybe system restore doesn't restore those kinds of files? I'm not sure. You should keep backups of those types of files though, so I guess this is a lesson learned the hard way?

 

It's not that it won't restore the bookmarks, it's that I keep getting a error message saying the restore was unsuccessful. There is something going on.

 

Perhaps you should do a virus scan, then. You might have something interfering with the restore such as a worm or something.

 

As for sys restore it is a hit and miss it working all the time, as for your FF bookmarks i am sorry to say they are gone for good. You cannot retrieve them once they are gone..Look in your profile for FF and you will see it is not there.

I have lost mine a few times, i switch my comp on load FF and bookmarks are gone..

In future always back them up, goto manage bookmarks then file then export (anywere you like) to restore the bookmarks do the same but click import.

I now do this every night without fail.

I do hope i am wrong and you can retreive them..

One more thing one way you can lose FF bookmarks is if the comp reboots without FF being closed first..Or shutdown without FF being closed.
