boot disc problemssssssss

hello all can you please help,my pc wont boot properly I can get past the windows screen on my pc then it keeps on restarting if i start in safe mode it hangs on the MUP FILE . im now using an old win98 pc that still works im trying to get the boot discs for the xp pro sp2 pc however i keep getting a o/i error. I am unable to boot from a cd on the xp pro sp2 pc and want to run the recovery console which is how i have survived in the past. so question is can i get to recovery console in xp pro from a win98 boot disc from a win98 formatted floppy? or Can i get xp sp2 boot discs to run on xp from boot discs that have been formatted and saved on win98...and if so where do i get the dam disks from..thanks in advance for your help.

 

Why cant you boot the Windows disc?

If you cant boot to a Windows disk and enter recovery console, and you have in the past, its a hardware issue. Something is either overheating, leaking (capacitor), or not seated correctly.

I suggest opeining the case, cleaning out all the dust, checking the motherboard for leaky capacitors, and resteating the RAM, Video Card, Sound Card, and un-plugging and re-plugging all the drives and power cords.

 

Hi and thanks for the reply,,i can boot from a floppy but I NEED to get a set of them(6) boot discs and i only have a win98 pc availabe to download them from and save to the floppy discs i have downloaded this from microsoft but when i put them in the xp pro pc i get an O/I error which kinda makes me think that perhaps its because i have downloaded and formated the floppy discs on a win98 machine, xp machine dont like it which is why i wondered if i could boot the machine with a 98 start up disc to get to the recovery console.
