Hope someone can help me out, really stuck. I purchased Windows 7 and wanted to change the hard drive at the same time. I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my hard drive. it was a clean install. it loaded up after install and i was able to play around and everything was good. i restarted the computer and it came up "BOOT DISK FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". I then went into the BIOS and made sure my hard drive was the MASTER and PRIMARY. if i put the installation cd in the drive it will boot no problem and into my desktop. when i take the cd out it gives a boot disk failure every time. I am quite stuck at this point as i have tried everything. I tried the 32 bit also, same thing. If someone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe a bad cable or hard disk or memory. I've had this happen and it turned out to be a bad hard disk. Check your memory using memtest86 and your hard drive maker's diagnostics program.

Not to rule out hardware problems but just to see if it is a Windows problem that can be fixed by software.

Try F8 at start up (repeatedly during the BIOS screen) and see if you get the Windows advanced startup options. If so choose Repair My Computer and see if it will automatically diagnose startup problems.

If you don't get the Advanced menu try using your CD and when you get to the screen for installation instead choose repair from the lower left. See if it will run the startup repair that way.

Thanks. I tried a repair and it is still the same. As you can see i am on the computer now. It runs perfect with the install disc in the drive, but wont boot without it.

I was thinking it was a problem with the boot files because it started up with the disc. But when I reread the error that looks like a BIOS error. So it probably is hardware related.

You said you have things set to Primary Master is this an IDE drive rather than a SATA drive? If it is IDE then do you have the jumper set to Master on the HD itself?

SWEEEEET !! I had the jumper set to Master on the HD and Slave on the DVD drive. The problem was i had the Master on the middle connector on the IDE cable and the Slave on the first position. I switched them around and everything boot up no problem.
    Thanks SACH2 !!
