boot disk?

ok i thought i knew a lot about computers! but i just upgraded my momb and cpu.... i powered up and it says "BOOT FROM CD:"
then it says something like please insert boot disk then press enter.... does this mean i need the cd from my copy of windows?

After a major upgrade like that, you'll need to reinstall XP. XP's activation is tied to your system hardware, and anytime you make a major hardware change i.e. Mobo, you'll have to reinstall.

 

Uhhhh, more info is required. What were your system specs. Which includes ALL hardware. What is your system specs NOW? Which ALSO includes ALL hardware!

 

OR repair installation of your OS....

A boot disk is any disk (hard or floppy or CD-ROM) that contains an operating system (any operating system) and is formatted in such a way that the computer can boot from it.

The BIOS probably generated that message because it could not find an operating system on the hard drive your system was configured to boot from. Or couldn't find the hard drive at all. Shadow_Puter_Dude's comment is the probable explanation.

Your Windows CD should work.
