My comp has suddenly gone on the fritz. Worked fine till I put it to sleep when I took the dog out. Upon returning, I hit the spacebar and the fans fired up but there was no display. I tried rebooting and still nothing. After several reboots I realized the single beep indicating ok video sys was missing. I tried a few more reboots, then pulled the VC and reinstalled. No change. The VC is a 8800GTS I picked up used a few days ago to replace my failed 8800GT. I installed it and loaded the latest non beta drivers, and it was working fine. After a few moree tries, I got the beep and the system tries to start. It would go to the Asus screen and then restart. I reset the BIOS to default and tried some more. It usually goes to the trouble screen where you have the option for safe mode. regardless of which option you pick it will go to the Windows XP screen and start to load. A blue screen flashes and it starts over. I haven't been able to freeze the BS to read it. The comp is as follows: Asus P35K MB, Intel E6750, 2 Gig Geil ram, 500Gig WD SATA, 500 gig Seagate SATA, Samsung SATA DVD burner, Thermaltake 500W PSU and case. Not sure where to go from here. Is it time to try a repair? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

On the safe mode screen there should be an option to Disable Restart on Error or similar wording. Choosing that option should allow you to read the blue screen. Go ahead and post the error code and any file(s) mentioned.

If anyone has some suggestions for the next step after getting the blue screen error, please post. Without Safe Mode available, I'm not sure what to try to change drivers. (I had this problem not long ago on a computer and just reformatted as it had been unused for quite a while and had no data I needed. I didn't want to spend the time to figure a way forward but a simple fix to delete the driver appeared frustrating with no safe mode available.)

Thanks for the reply. There is no option to disable restart. I am going to try a Linux live DVD and see what happens.

With the Linux Mint, the comp is working so, I am assuming everything is ok hardware wise. I am posting from Linux. I guess the next step is to try a Windows repair.
