boot from cd not working

    i am trying to install xp from disk when i press enter wont boot tells me boot manager is missing how do i fix

    When booting enter BIOS setup (there is a message for key - <F2> or ...)
    Change boot order so that CD/DVD is first. Save and exit.
    Reboot. CD should boot.
    If CD does not boot either CD media or CD drive is broken.
    Next check if CD media is readable on another computer.

    My 120GB hard drive has gone pop on my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop and I am trying to install a new 500GB drive in it's place. However when trying to install windows XP on this drive it keeps telling me that there is no boot sector on internal drive. No bootable devices!
    Any sujestions out there?

    I'm not sure if this is accurate.
    If that is true, you might have to partition the 500GB hard drive before the Dell will recognize it.

    If the hard drive is too big, how do I go about partitioning it ? When I ran a diognostic check on the unit it does recognise the size of the hard drive being 500GB but I can't load the Operating System in order to access the devise manager.

    Hello,
    Just a note, if you do not have XP SP1 or later, the OS will not recognize a drive that is 500GB
