boot help

everytime my windows starts up there is a folder that opens itself automatically. what can i do to change this?

i am running xp pro and the folder that opens up automatically is crogramfiles/nortonantivirus

Check in your Startup folder to see if there's a link/shortcut to that norton folder. If so, remove it.

(you might be able to see it through start menu>programs>startup)

 

Any antivirus program worth anything would do the same! The fact that it is starting automatically with Windows is a good thing. I believe this protects you from any files that you may access before manually starting the antivirus program, such as files on a floppy, a downloaded CD, and surfing the internet. I wouldn't disable this feature if it were me, but that is only my opinion. I'm sure that others will have opinions on this also! Hope this helped!

 

He's saying that Norton's progam folder opens, not that Auto-Protect is loading with Windows.

JackT, check your startup folder as explained earlier.

I did check the startup folder but there is no link to the NAV folder that opens up. are there anyother possiblities?

I'd ask you to maybe look into the registry, but an easier way might be to try a program like Starter and see if it finds any links.
