    Easy way to change boot screen is via a program named stylexp.

    As for your boot.ini, assuming your system drive is C: and is where the boot.ini resides,

    Go to start, run:

    C:\boot.ini

    You can edit it from here.

    Thats the quickest way.

    Here is what mine says:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    There are also commands to rebuild it automatically via Recovery Console, such as

    bootcfg /rebuild

    It will ask for OS Load Identifier: Windows XP

    It will ask for OS load options: /fastdetect

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /KERNEL=LOGOOS.EXE
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="(Backup Line) Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    IT LOOKS SIMILAR.

    AND I COULD NOT DO ANY OF THE THINGS YOU SURGESTED

    ACCESS DENIED.

    IS THIS A PROBLEM

    I think our idea of similar is not the same ;)

    Yours:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /KERNEL=LOGOOS.EXE
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="(Backup Line) Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    Mine:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    The access denied in the Recovery Console was because you never logged into it. It didn't authenticate you, in other words.

    If you can make it match within Windows, then don't worry about the last part. Its irrelevant at that point.

    i cant seem to access any thing to do with boot.
    by start and run.

    Then how did you pull up the boot.ini info you listed here?

    There are other ways, I figured that was easiest.

    I'll post blow by blow screenshots in a second.

    Right click My Computer, choose Properties.

    Follow the highlighted tabs and butons:

    Click on Settings on the Advanced tab under Startup and Recovery.

    I am pretty sure style xp jsut modifies ntoskrnl.exe.

    Not positive on that. I am almost certain it doesn't play with the boot.ini though.

    Almost.

    I've always used the hacked uxtheme.dll ;)

    Does that make it any cloudier?

    LOL

    Ive been using Bootskin from Stardock for a long time and never had a problem with it,plus its free :)
    Bootskin

    And ive checked my boot ini and its not modified so i expect it just modifies the ntoskrnl.exe as Adryn suggested for style xp
