    Good morning (wonderful community!),
I would ask you which one is the tool you suggest to manage the bootloading on a system with aboard Windows 10 and maui OS (Linux distro).
When I installed the Linux distro, it disabled the Windows bootloader then I had to restore it in the way below:
    BOOTREC /SCANOS
    BOOTREC /FIXMBR
    BOOTREC /FIXBOOT
    BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD
    bcdedit /enum

now I am in Windows but I lost the access to the Linux partition... how can I have both and select which one at the start-up?

    Cheers,

Give the free version of EasyBCD a try. It will boot any OS and bootable ISOs too. Recommended.

    Good afternoon,
I tested it but it doesn't detect the linux partition... any alternative?

My bad, sorry. Thought it booted Linux too. FWIW I have only once mixed Linux and Windows on the same disk and, after the misery I suffered when removing it, promised myself I would never try it again. One boot manager that definitely could do the job is Grub4DOS, but you would probably need help configuring the linux entry in the boot configuration file menu.lst. I could help you configure the rest of it but a bit tied up today trying to do some outside painting before rain sweeps in tomorrow.

EDIT - this excellent guide will tell you more about Grub4DOS. It's written for a flash drive but is very easily adapted for a MBR style hard drive. When booting it can hide partitions from each other which I suggest you may be wise to do.

If you can't switch to Legacy Boot in UEFI Setup, you may never be able to dual-boot the computer because UEFI boot only boots to the OEM installation of Windows.

Is this true of hard drive dual booting? I mean I have distros (distri?) that boot in secure mode from usb or cd/dvd. If it's not possible to actually put it on the hard drive then maybe a usb option would give the user the use of maui linus when needed.

On my Dell Inspiron 15-5555 which originally was set to UEFI, Secure boot enabled, I could boot to CD/DVD if I changed the boot order. I could NOT boot to USB nor could I install other versions of Windows (or anything else) to multi-boot.

I was fortunate enough to have been supplied a recovery DVD which contained the full install of the OEM OS (8.1 Core). I had to switch to Legacy Boot, Secure boot disabled in UEFI Setup and because of that had to re-initialize the hard drive to MBR from GPT (GPT won't work as BOOT in Legacy Boot Mode).

After doing the above I was able to create new partitions and install the versions of Windows I wanted. I run 8.1 Core (necessary because of the UEFI embedded Product Key), 8.1 Pro, 10 Pro and 10 Pro Insider Preview. I can also boot to USB connected hard drives/SSDs and Flash Drives. I cannot, however, boot to USB connected Optical Drives (perhaps because I have an internal DVD Multi drive).

But, I dislike UEFI despite the improved security. It's difficult to work with and GPT with it's multiple copies it creates will eat up disk space.

I do on this Acer Aspire 603 secure boot from cd/dvd .And from usb. I had to check to make sure I wasn't mistaken . I have a win 10 pe that boots secure mode usb and a fatdog64 that boots secure mode usb also. There must be others out there. Haven't tried to dual boot the hdd though. Don't know of maui Linux either. Maybe their website/forum can help.

I have Windows 10 and Linux Mint dual boot on a desktop PC. The system had a single SSHD hard drive which was partitioned to enable it. When I boot the system it has three choices, the first is Linux, the next is Windows and the third system set up. It loads automatically into Linux as the first choice after 5 seconds if neither of the other two options are chosen before that.
It was the first time I had tried this since the advent of UEFI, with enormous help from a friend who is a Windows and Linux wizard. Rather than just doing it for me, he guided me through the steps. But he did recommend this video as one very good one if I chose to do it alone. It is nominally for Win10 & Mint but the same steps apply to any distro:

Many people do prefer to just run Linux from a USB, and for sure in Windows 8/8.1 it was often verging on impossible to dual boot, especially as some manufacturers almost made it so. It is now much easier in Win 10 for people who would rather dual boot.

Didn't watch the video Max. Short on mbytes right now and waiting till I load my next card. But good to know it's out there. Hope some other users see it also. I did check Maui's site and found a few threads going on the topic. Seems some work around it with neon or ubantu loaders and maybe enough wish for to get a real secure boot package going. I feel in the next few years unless your a straight 'mouse clicker' everyone will be learning how to deal with these issues.

D/l'd the video, Max. Good information. Probably won't try it on this disk, but while @ youtube, reading the comments I did see mention of a new to me program - EasyUEFI - . Grabbed it and will go through it's help section for any useful information. Thanks for the link!
