Most motherboards have a "Select Boot Device" menu that can accessed right when the PC is turned on. For example, most Dell PCs use F12, some HPs use Esc, my motherboard uses F10. Right when the PC is poweres on, the maker's logo comes up and I press F10 a couple of times. Then I get a list of all the devices that could be booted from: CD/DVD drives, the 3 hard drives I installed, even my media reader is listed a boot device. So, chances are you already have a "boot manager" built-in to your MB. It's not the same as a software based boot manager, mainly because you have to press a key to start it, but otherwise, it's a simple way to go, and it works w/o any configuration problems, or not "liking" a particular OS. However, I thought I'd provide some links to some free boot managers available here at Major Geeks:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Zboot_Manager_d544.html (it's $hareware, but it does not expire; it shows "registration reminders" and sleep mode and master password are disabled for unregistered versions, but that's all)

thanks for the info. unfortunately none of the programs did what i needed them to do. i did figure out what went wrong with the program i was using, after installing the program, win 7 says the program didn't install correctly and asks you if you want win7 to correct it, i let it and hence my problem began. after a reinstall of the os i tried it again and this time i clicked on "the program installed correctly" and the problem was fixed. thanks everyone.
