For the past 2 days, when booting up, the screen shows a pic of the BIOS screen instead of a normal boot.

It says to press F1 for setup, but this does nothing.

I then go to BIOS and I see that it is set to boot from DVD drive, which is of course incorrect.

I change it to boot from SSD ( which has the OS) and then a screen says

Repair . It then starts normally.

This started after I installed a 3tb hdd ( storage), although I can't see what that would have to do with that and is probably coincidental.

    MOBO - Asus P8z77-v

On the next boot, same problem.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Check the CMOS battery. It's usually a CR2032 rated at 3 Volts.

I agree. Just make sure you unplug from the wall and touch bare metal of the case BEFORE reaching in to prevent static in your body from discharging through any ESD sensitive devices.

Also, after you replace the battery, boot directly into the BIOS Setup Menu and set the date and time, and your boot order, then Save and Exit to boot normally.

All it entailed was clicking "boot priorities" which I hadn't noticed before and now all is well.

Glad you got it sorted out and thanks for the followup.
