I am using a Compaq presario 2120us notebook with 512mg RAM and a 60Gb Hard Drive. The OS is XP Pro with all service packs and updates installed.

Please provide the exact problem description. | 80/ of the time when I power up or reboot my computer, after the scrolling boot screen I get a blue screen that comes on and off so quickly that I cannot read it. It then reboots. (most times twice) before if finally successfully boots. Then I get the Windows has recovered from a serious error message.

I have sun sfc /scannow and have run fixboot.exe. I have also replaced the hard drive and restred from a backup. No changes. I do have a boot log from one of the failed boot attempts. Here it is:

Inline boot log converted to attachment

Please let me know what I can do from here.

    Thanks as always!

In the future, if you have a log like this, please attach it to your post, via a .txt file. :)

    Does safe mode work?

If so, I do recommend running a chkdsk c: /r from the cmd prompt. I.E.
START, RUN, type in CMD (press enter)

    Next type in:

    chkdsk c: /r (press enter)
    y (press enter)
    y (press enter)
    exit (press enter)
    Restart your computer.

I'd also look into your device manager.

START, RUN, type in: devmgmt.msc (press enter)
Are are the devices installed? No Yellow Exclmation marks (!) ? Or red (x)'s?

Thanks for the reply. (Sorry, I will use a .TXT attachment next time.)

Per your advice, I did run chkdsk. It found no problems. Then I looked at my Device Manager. There are two items under non-plug & play drivers that have yellow exclamation points beside them. They are:

    DS1410D

    PartMgr

Do you know what these might be? Should I uninstall them?

    Thanks again for the advice.

You should be able to edit your own posts so you could remove the inline log and attach it instead, that IS a whole lot of scrolling ;)
