I use a usb drive to backup my system drive with Norton Ghost 10. My system won't boot if the USB drive is plugged in. It stops at the first screen where it would be looking for the master and slave drives. I checked the setup and the first boot and third are set for the hhd 0. Everything runs fine if I unplug the USB, boot and then plug in the USB drive.

I Am not an expert, but I think you should change that boot order in your BIOS to 1rst = HDD 0, 2nd = CD-ROM, 3rd = Floppy or something more apropiate to your setup.

I ran into a similiar problem when I tried to keep a SanDisk flash drive plugged into the USB port. I've used two other brands, Lexar and JD Micro with no bootup problems at all.

Let us know what type/model of drive you are using. Maybe someone else has had that problem.

ALSO, I plugged this usb drive into our two other computers and they boot fine with it plugged in. Both of them run xp home, the problem computer runs xp pro, could there be an issue with that?
