Boot Problem With XP Pro

I can't get past the XP Pro screen with the 3 moving balls to my user name . Tried system restore but I can only boot in safe mode which is a pain because I can't print anything. Followed the scan procedure but couldn't find anything. The last shutdown after a successful boot was uneventful and I can't recall any problems during that session.

I have included my Hijack This Log if anyone can see anything odd, I couldn't but then again I am no expert at reading these.

    Any help much appreciated

I followed the instructions but it looks like I needed to do this in normal boot mode. As I can only boot in Safe Mode, not sure if the procedure still works as well.

I am puzzled why I am in this position in the first place as I thought XP Pro was stable enough to avoid boot problems like this. I just wish I knew where to start looking to get back to a normal boot and get my printer back.

Once in safe mode, have you tried running msconfig?

Start, run, type in msconfig (press enter).

    Select radial button "Selective Startup".

    Now, uncheck "startup items".

    Ok, reboot.

One other item. WHAT did did you do that caused this? What was the LAST program you ran, before you rebooted? Any cleaning software?

Tried the Msconfig advice but same problem. My hard drive ans screen seem to just go into limbo before the user names appear leaving me with the Xp start up screen.

My last session on the PC didn't use any software other than my usual zone alarm and AVG . I can't even recall any downloads . Certainly there were no program installs or updates. it was a simple email and internet session. I really can't understand why I can't do a system restore which has always got me going again in the past if I had any boot problems, which are rare I must admit.
