Boot Problem

I have a dell PC and When I turn it on it goes through about 5 seconds of boot, and then goes to a screen with a white flashing cursor in the top left corner. I can only access the boot options and the system settings. It is a fairly new computer but the OS has been changed to windows 2000. PLEASE HELP ME OUT!

 

What OS was it running before you changed it to Win2K?

Did you format the HD before changing the OS to Win2K?

What model of Dell is this? Include specs if you know.

 

Dell Precision 370, 232gb hard drive, 2gb ram, duo 3.0ghz processer, pentium 4. Was running Xp before and I have nt touched the HD because it was done by a computer technician, It was a work computer and it is now running 2K proffessional from XP proffessional.

Why was the OS changed from WinXP Pro to Win2K?

 

Because all the computers at dads work were on windows 2k so my dad (stupid) decided to downgrade rather than upgrade when they got new pc's.

And then when I tried to change the OS back, one (the computer with the issue) was missing file, and the other one is now 'not genuine' windows. BTW I hate Windows Genuine advantage.

Anyway, unless he or the Comptech formatted the HD, there should be a recovery partition on the HD to restore it to it's previous OS. I hope!!!

Try going to Dell and putting in the service tag number located on the back or side of the case.

 

How do u get into the bios?
