Boot problem

Hi all Yesterday I wanted to install Linux to my hd instead of windows. I burned the cd, closed down my computer, made the boot order cd first and then I booted. The problem was that it wasn't a bootable cd I had made, so I decided to change my boot order back to hd first but now all my devices (CD-Rom,HDD and remote media) have a couple of [] around it and this is what the help says about the []'s "A device enclosed in parenthesis has been disabled in the *corresponding type menu" I can't find the corresponding type menu and reset to default doesn't solve the problem. I've not changed/touched any of my hardware recently, so I don't think that's the problem. Hope to hear from you guys

The motherboard is Asus P5K/epu

It's a stationary computer

I can get into safe mode, so the hd isn't fried

Hope you guys can help me out

Most motherboards have a boot menu that you can access by pressing F12 or F8 or Esc. This menu is different from the BIOS and is different from the Windows boot menu. It will allow you to select a 'temporary' boot device independent of the BIOS boot order. On my motherboard it's F12. The most common ones are F12, F10, F8, and Esc. When you find out what key works, you should be able to boot to the hard drive regardless of the BIOS settings. Now, as to the Linux CD not booting: I think you may have burned the downloaded file (likely an .ISO image file) as a data disc, and as you discovered, burning an .ISO file as data doesn't work. It must be burned as an image. Most (if not all) burning programs support burning full bootable CDs/DVDs from ISO files. An easy-to-use option would be the free program ImgBurn. It's easy to use and very self explanatory.....
