Boot problems Win XP

When I attempted to statup windows, I get an error screen that has the safe mode choices an last known good config. The only choice that seems t load Windows XP Home is the safe mode with command prompt and I get a long string of error messages that say:

multi (0)disk(0)rdisk(0)parttion(2)\windows\system32\drivers\

and then have something different after the \drivers\ part like atapi.sys, bootdsk, ndisk, and others, then the monitor turns off like as if I pushed the off button.. Does anyone know what may be the problem or how I begin to fix this?

 

Sounds like maybe the video driver is corrupt; meaning that even the 'generic' safe mode video driver is corrupt too. You say you're error messages? Are you sure that what you're seeing is not just the path and file name of individual files that are being loaded? Safe mode lists each file as it's loaded. If you could post exactly which file is listed LAST before the screen goes black, we may be able to proceed w/ some assistance Sometimes, safe mode is REALLY slow, try waiting... like up to 10 or 15 minutes for the display to come up. If the drive is fragmented, or infected w/ malware, or startup files are way to many, you can get REALLY slow safe mode boot times....

Hopper, you were right those were files being loaded, the last one being Drivers\agp440.sys. Pretty much after that one shows up on the screen it is the last thing I see b/c right after that the monitor shuts off and the CPU's light goes from green to yellow and I have to reboot. Nothing is working from start Windows as normal, any of the safe modes, or last known good config. Should I just reload WIN XP from the backup disk or is there hope?
