Boot record screwed up

My daughters pentium III (win98) got a jolt from when my husband installed a new breaker box. I replaced the power supply and ofcourse now it comes up with the black screen saying theres a boot error, insert boot disk to restore boot data. The DVD drive and floppy drives appear to be working ok. I inserted a norton rescue floppy I had created back in Feb. Then I selected restore boot data from A: it just freezes. help. I tried the f8 and f9 keys during startup to try and at least get to safe mode, no luck.http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

a:\fdisk/mbr [note the forward slash]

also you can

a:\sys c:

that will transfer the system boot files over.

the other command listed fixes the master boot record

 

I left out one "little" thing...this little connector. It kinda came out inadvertently, I didn't see where it plugs into at the bottom of the pc, I did see where it goes at the top however, by the dvd drive. So I didn't put it back in! see attachment

 

All I can say is its a good thing I'm a florist and not a brain surgeon. I forgot to plug in the hard drive to the power!!! I had to use your bios suggestion anyways, thanks for all your help!
