Boot Repair

    My computer has frozen. After a restart it no longer boots right. I sent it to my wife's work so the IT guy could take a look at it. He did a boot repair and got this report. What does it mean?

    Hi

    Did the IT guy not fix it? or just gave you this report?
    Take it PC still does not boot and when you boot do you get to Windows Desktop or if not what if any errors do you get? please describe the boot process as will give us clues as to whats likely going on.

    In the main if you have NO boot then repair is best option http://www.techspot.com/guides/630-windows-8-boot-fix/ like this, and another question before running any of this is do you have backup of your PC and data, as if you have crucial data files, you may not get them back as depends on if you can get this PC to boot to Windows ok, if it does get to the desktop as you say "boots right" then backup now crucial data.

    He did fix it by just formatting hard drive. We were able to get the data we did want off of it. Before it would give us either option of booting normally or a scan mode. Normal boot would blue screen and restart. Scan mode (or whatever it was) would go to a generic windows desktop with no icons or task bar. I couldn't do anything there. I was just curious of your take on the web page the IT guy gave us because I couldn't make heads or tails if it.

    losttexan, the IT guy ran a ubuntu-linux tool and gave you the report of what it found. I'm not that well versed with linux, but it looks to me it found Win7 as the OS on partition 3 of the first (only?) drive. Is Win7 the OS or Win8?

    Also, did you try booting into safe mode, after you got it back from the IT guy?

    The IT person fixed it by formatting the drive if you read post #3 so problem actually solved.
