OK, I have read all the threads, and if there is a situation similar to mine, I didn't see it. I have the boot.tidserv virus on my main computer. My machine will not boot. I tried several of the recommended removers such as tdsskiller, norton bootable recover disc, and still could not remove it. I was not able to access it at all or do any virus removal that worked, so I took out the hard drive and placed it in a retired machine that I didn't care if it got infected or not. Now it's really gotten mean. It changes the boot sequence in the bios to keep me from accessing drives that i have virus removal software on, but not all the time. Still none of the virus removal software will touch it. I have tried just having the infected hard drive connected to the system, no help.

I am completely at a loss here. I guess what I am looking for is a super duper virus scan tool that I can tell what drive to scan. I can't seem to find one that does. I know that I have seen it in the past, I just can't remember where.

You have probably deduced that I am not a computer genius. I know just enought to get myself in trouble, so please, go easy on me.:cry:cry:cry:cry

You need to try and run through the procedure here....

create a new thread there and one of the malware guru's will assist in getting your drive up and runninng again.

or if you are not bothered about any data/files on that drive and can hook it up to another machine, then i would suggest using Ccleaners in-built drivewiper software, this will completely overwrite the drive with a series of zeros, it has different types of passes that it can use, but i suppose a simple single pass should be enough to get rid of the 'Nasty'.

    good luck !!;)

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that I believe I did everything that I could on that list over the last few days to no avail.

I have other hard drives that I could use in the machine if I didn't care about the data, but I have spent a rediculous amount of time on this, and now I am asking myself why!

Probably for the time I have spent, I could have re-installed all of the software on a new hard drive with none of the hassle.

Have you gone into the Recovery Console and ran fixmbr? ( Assuming this is an XP machine.)

To be honest with you, that one scared me a little. I hadn't read any threads containing reference to it.

As I said before, I'm not a computer expert and I seem to remember that there were commands that I didn't understand. I'll look again, and if there are any pointers you can give me, it would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you very much

Sorry, yes it is an XP machine. I have tried to run a repair installation, recovery, several different anti virus (malwarebytes, norton,) I can't remember the others. It all starts to haze over.

OK, so for the next chapter in the adventure. I decided that since I was probably going to lose all the installed programs anyway, I would try a repair windows installation. I went to the i386 folder on the CD, and found the product key and entered it when asked.
It took quite a while, but finally the opening screen of XP came up and the program started to load. Suddenly I saw my backround screen come up and I was very excited at the prospect that indeed, there was a way to fix my problem.

Before it finished loading the startup screen a screen came up that said that before we went any further we had to activte windows. I proceeded to attempt to do a registration over the internet, but when I started to enter my product key, all I could type were numbers. No matter what I pressed, it was a number.

The question now is what do I do next. One frustration after another.

    Thanks,

    Jerry
