I've posted under software but now I'm thinking this is a problem with my MB. :( Anyways, I just changed over to a new case. I start up the computer and it takes way longer than usual to see all my drives. Gets to the Verify DMI Pool and then I get Boot from cd:, plesase INSERT SYSTEM DISK...even though my master HDD has XP on it. My boot order is set up correctly. I thought maybe the HDD had some problem with it so I re-installed xp. Restart the computer and I get the same thing, takes forever to detect IDE devices then it won't boot from the HDD. I could before get into xp by inserting my xp disk when prompted to insert system disk and waiting a few seconds for some reason. but I didn't want to have to do that every time prompting me to re-install thinking there was a problem with the HDD. Guess my question is where's my problem?? HDD?? MB?? Bios?? Something else??

    HELP PLEASE!!!

If you can use the XP disk and get into Windows, maybe try running a Scandisk and see if there are bad sectors on the hard drive.

Do all of the IDE devices show up in BIOS? Since you changed cases, check the connection from the HDD to the MB. Maybe there's a pin problem or something. Just some suggestions...good luck!!

Have you left a floppy in?,if not try unplugging all the drives apart from the harddrive and disable boot other device in bios if you have the option.

I did run a Scandisk, but no luck there. All the devices show up in BIOS, i've tried having nothing but my main drive connected and still had the same problem. I'll check the pins to see if there could be a problem there.... thanks

If it only reared its head when you changed cases, logically it points to something thats been installed incorrectly, when mine didn't work I rebuilt the whole thing 5 times with a checklist but the B£$%$%d PSU was dead.I bet you could strip the whole thing down and put it back together in 15mins,just thought try different ide cables.

    How is your boot.ini?

Yeah, it was up and running great till I changed cases. I was thinking of just pulling everything and putting back together again.

Not sure if the boot.ini is ok. How would I know if it is or not??

    Two methods
    1.Rightclick mycomputer>propeties>advanced>startup and recover>edit.(check manualy)
    2.msconfig>boot.ini>check all boot paths.

Well, got things working correctly finally. But to my joy comes the "rbot ln" worm after finally getting the computer back up and running :( There's nothing on there that's important since I already put on a fresh install previously. I put AntiVir on there and updated it but it kept coming back. It would detect it, i'd tell it to delete it but with no luck. Ran Ad-aware and AntiVir numerous times and I'm just at the point of saying why bother. Re-formatting and installing xp again should wipe this correct?

just hope the other computers on the network are ok, nothing was said and all computers were up and running, only mine got the warning....

thanks to all who offered suggestions on my previous problem. And if anyone would care to give a synopsis of order to install things I'd appreciate that. e.g.: install OS, then MB drivers, windows update... etc. Or if there is really no real good set way. I'm guessing this was just a random attack, at least I hope so
